A couple of items after attendingt the Fordham game today:

- Great turnout of alumns and GW fans.  Not sure how it played on TV but I'd say GW had a third or more of the seats.

- Great job by the Alumni office at the pre-game tailgate - over 200 people I'd say, students checking coats, open bar and lots of goodies to eat.  A first class affair and tremendous turnout.

- Coach Hobbs spoke to the group just prior to the game which was great.  Of special note, he said that Pops will be back "before the season ends".  Hopefully he meant either regular season or A-10 season. 

- We were right under the basket for Omar's reverse dunk.  I know I'll never forget it. 

Was that Danilo's father (S.R.?) with the GW sweatshirt and the camera they kept showing?

Also, was that Pops' mother (Moms?) with the 3 pointed yellow Colonial hat?

"The game was the second straight sellout for Fordham at 3,200-seat Rose Hill Gym, the oldest building in use by a Division I program. The first game was played there on Jan. 16, 1925."

The commentators on TV made is sound like other than the spectators immediately behind the GW bench, there was 'nary a GW fan in the house.  I saw yellow foam hats in the endzone section on TV during the free throws though.

Glad you and the faithful were there.  I am sure you made a difference!

Per Herve's questions from someone at the game, two comments:

1. Regarding the hard fouls at the end of the game, I said at the time that a couple should have been called intentiional fouls.  I mean there was no attempt to go for the ball.  I was impressed how Pinnock and Rice kind of shrugged it off pretty quickly.  Maturity. 

2.  Regarding the no-calls in the paint, it seemed that that was being not called both ways.  In the second half, Mike and Omar were all over Dunston whenever he got the call in the paint and were rarely called for it.

In sum, GW was clearly the more athletic team with only two or so Fordham players at the same level.  It almost seemed like it wasn't fair.  I was suprised it ended up being as close as it was.

Herve you are right, they were hacking like crazy.  they had no choice though, fordham had no chance otherwise.  this team is special.  if we play defense like that in the tournament WATCH OUT!!

I'm glad you asked Herve.  My TV perspective was that it was very uneven.  Seemed like things that were travels on us or offensive fouls on us were allowed to go uncalled for Fodham.  Dunston in particular seemed to get away with a lot that our side got whistled for.  Also seemed like refs were letting them hack away inside often without calls.  Regardless, we overcame it.

By the way, not cool to bring a man's baby into it.  Especially with the kidnapping reference.  That's way, way over the line and I suspect such a sign wouldn't be allowed at the Smith Center.

I noticed three things:

1)  The refs didn't cal two clear travels on fordham in the second half.

2) They called a foul on omar when it was cvlear it was all ball.

3) Neither team were charged with intentionals in the 2nd half.  Two suspect fouls by fordham on those breakaways and then one on Rice at the end.  he did get his body all over the fordham player with like 1 minuie or so to go.  It was borderline intentional. 

Overall-the fordham fans and amuns thought they got hosed all over the place and it just made me laugh.  WE do the same a tthe Smittty.  Regardless--- we are so great/athletic.  I sat behind the fordham bench on the first half and chatted with some alums.  By the end of the first half they were asking for details on each of our players.  It was fun.  THe students were very disrespectful and spitefu7l.  as I was leaving, several made such unitelligible and disrepectul remarks about our team, players and of course my bro and I.  I laughed it all off.

My favorite comment was, Please #6 in the country.  You dont derserrve it, you guys suck,.  Who you even beat?  Then my Father says, we beat you, didnt we."  Then the kid says, "Yeah we;; we're a buch of nobodies.  to which my bro and ?I replied...thats the first thing youve said that we agree with."  classic
