Men, tonight you embark upon the a portion of a journey that you started 12
months ago when we walked off the court after the Georgia Tech game.
Part of the journey involved some of our friends leaving us for various
reasons to go their separate ways. But those of you who remain are a part
of something special here at George Washington University. You stayed for a
reason. You stayed on because you care about the school, what it stands
for, your teammates, and yourselves!
All of you recognize that you are a part of something special here tonight.
You recognize that you've come a long way from last March. I encourage you
to savor it. Absorb this moment and seize it! Embrace it and take it the
direction that YOU want to go.
There comes a point in each persons life when he/she asks himself: HOW DO I
WANT TO BE REMEMBERED?
Reality is so few people have the chance that you have tonight. You have the
chance to effect the answer to that question. The moment is at hand. It is
not about tomorrow. It is not about yesterday. It is not about what you did
ten minutes ago. But part of your future and how you'll be remembered will
be shaped BY YOU over the net two and half hours!!! Look around this room
and look at the person net to you. How do you want that guy to remember
you? How do you want him to remember the way you played in this game? How
do you want your parents, family, and friends to remember your performance
on this night? Will you be remembered as ordinary or etraordinary?
Twenty years from now when you have your team reunion you'll see many of
these faces again and you'll shake hands. You'll reminesce and you'll soak
up the common bond that you have with your teammates that can never be
The coaches have prepared you for this game. The trainers have prepared you
for this game. You've prepared yourselves for this game. But there are
several things to remember when you take the court:
1. Play with heart. No matter what happens, we don't let up!
2. Play with passion. For many of you this is your last game as a Colonial.
But even for the underclassmen, do not take this situation for granted.
Although you earned the right to be here, don't assume you'll be back. Play
it as if it were your last hurrah. PLAY EVERY SINGLE POSSESSION LIKE IT'S
THE PLAY THAT WILL SAVE THE GAME! EACH PLAY MUST BE A WINNING PLAY. As the
game goes on each play adds up to a winning performance.
3. Play within yourselves. Remember what you've been taught and play within
that. So often teams lose games because guys start playing outside what
they've been asked to do. Trust your mates and know they have your back.
4. Have fun! Relish this moment. That means an awful lot of young men will
go through life wondering what it would have been like to be in your shoes.
Enjoy this, men! Don't be afraid to win!
5. PLAY LIKE CHAMPIONS TONIGHT! Play with the champion's heart, mind,
spirit, & attitude. OWN THE GAME, MEN! CLAIM IT! OWN IT! BE IT!
DON'T LET ANYONE TAKE THIS MOMENT AWAY FROM YOU! NOT THE PRESS! NOT THE
FANS! NOT THE MEDIA! AND CERTAINLY NOT THE SUKE BLUE DEVILS!!!!!
GO OUT THERE TONIGHT AND SHOW THE WORLD WHAT GEORGE WASHINGTON BASKETBALL IS
ALL ABOUT! WE TALK ABOUT GREAT MEN SUCH AS HOLUP, TALLENT, DARE, KOUL,
ROGERS, MONROE. WE TALK ABOUT THE COLORS. YOU'RE NOT ALONE ON THAT COURT,
MEN! THE GHOSTS OF GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY PAST WILL BE WITH YOU!
All season long we've talked about what it takes to be considered truly
etraordinary. What it takes to be considered great! There are people in
this world who are afraid to be great! They're afraid to be champions only
because they are afraid of the work and committment required to be in the
BUT NOT YOU! LOOK AT YOUR COLORS! LOOK AT YOUR JERSEYS AND ABSORB WHAT IT IS
TO BE A PART OF THE SPECIAL FRATERNITY OF GEORGE WASHINGTON BASKETBALL
PLAYERS! PLAY FOR THE PAST! PLAY FOR THE FANS! PLAY FOR THE ALUMNI! PLAY FOR
YOUR CLASSMATES! PLAY FOR YOURSELVES!
GO OUT THERE AND BE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!! BE CHAMPIONS AT GEORGE WASHINGTON

Karl Hobbs after the UNCW game:
"We have dreams and we're just trying to fulfill our dreams. I can't
tell you when the last time we won in the NCAA Tournament. All I know
is we set goals for ourselves, we have dreams, and we're just trying to
live and follow our dreams. That's it and that's all we're focused on".
We have dreams, and we will fulfill them. Unfortunately for Duke they happen to be net line.

Folks, Omar is not ready to go, only to hear more controversy. We will win.
Pops isn't ready to call it quits, or stop using that knee that my tuition paid to fi. We will win.
Mike Hall knows every game might be his last, so he plays his ass off to make sure it isn't. We will win.
Regis knows that he might get a date with LSU if we win today. We will absolutely win.
The Ukraine Train knows that there are big men playing his style of ball going up against him, and he has a lot to prove, and not much time to do it. We will win.
Rob knows that we can count on him, and he wants a winning tradition for his net three years here. We will win.
Maureece Rice does not understand the concept of losing... there is only making more shots under more pressure than the other team. We will win.
Carl knows that shutting down Duke will show the world that being "Big Shot Elliott" is legit. We will win.
Noel wants to define his season not by a miss that was put back, but by great shooting to seal a run, or break a tie. We will win.
Coach Hobbs knows that these 5 seniors, including Dior Toney, who was the glorious face of the spirit of George Washington Basketball on Thursday, deserve to topple Duke. We will win.
Keri, Dominic, Dokun, and Cheyenne, though you men sit on the bench, you want this win for this team more than those other reserves on that other bench. You rode this out with this team. You fought hard, you worked hard. It is because of you, and the other men on this squad, that WE WILL WIN.

What more could we want, playing the #1 team to go to the Sweet 16 on natiional television. All players, coaches and fans would have wanted this option if presetned with it in Pre-Season. Today all of the nation, not just hoops fans, will know about Hobbsie and the GW Colonials.
It is ours, and it will be ours - A VICTORY

I can feel it my bones gentlemen, for last night I selpt the sleep of the righteous knowing that finally our day has come. These are the moments that define men characters and place a program on the net level forever. As I know this season shall be forever remembered by all those witnessed it, it will also be the point in your lives when you look back you realized that with hard work, team work and desire all goals are attainable. What we are about to do out there today some say can't be done. That is why we play the game, not for the prestige, glory or rewards, but to show the world that we who everyone said shouldn't even be here among the elite programs BELONG. Not that we belong for the net 2 1/2hrs or the net two weeks but for ALL TIMES. So that when they speak the words The George Washington University they remember this day in March in the State of NC when against all odds a group of young men from Foggy Bottom said " It is our time to shine ". SO when we win this one today I want you to bask in the beauty of it for a moment then get on that bus knowing our work is not complete, because we didn't come here to beat Duke and go home content , we came to beat them all then go home NCAA CHAMPIONS. Duke just happens to be in the way.

When the final buzzer sounds today, I will be the happiest man on the face of the earth.
(Okay, so maybe I'll be tied with being the happiest man on the face of the earth.)
Lee Katz3/18/2006 8:20:00 AM
Now as I get ready to leave for the game, should point out for the sake of consistency that we should not be too overconfident about these guys. Duke could still give us a good game. So, it might be a tough challenge though we can hopefully prevail.

FOR JOE HOLUP, CORKY DEVLIN, ALL THE TALLENTS, JOHN HOLLORAN, MIKE BROWN, MIKE ZAGARDO, CHRIS MONROE, AND OUR OTHER WARRIORS WHO NEVER HAD THIS OPPORTUNITY. THIS IS OUR TIME. SEIZE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every time I think about this game, I think of a GW win. Sometimes it's a grinding, hard-fought win; sometimes it's a close buzzer-beater win; once it was even a high-flying runaway win. But it's always a win.
There is NO REASON this game can not be OURS.
This is OUR TIME. This is what we've worked all year for, the chance to prove to the country that we're legit.
And for those of you in downtown DC who are still looking for a place to wtach the game, a group of us will be at Mackey's (1823 L St NW).
Hail to the Buff and Blue!
