How funny would it be to have Donyell Marshall's kid and Erik Copes (Assistant Coach Roland's nephew) on the court together- any other team have more of family connections on the court?

looks like donovan jack (what a great name!) has an offer from vermont........  maybe thats our package deal.

If these two come as a package deal, GW's only point guard in 2012 would be Dan Guest, unless I'm missing something.

As mentioned in another thread, there is the expectation that one or more players will be leaving early after this year.  So GW is likely recruiting another pg NOW for 2011.  If they aren't able to get one, they would likely keep a scholarship open so they could add another player in 2012.

Thanks thinker.  It's ashame that people speculate it to be Jabari, just as he seems to be coming into his own a bit.

It would be one player in addition to Jabari who under no circumstances was ever going to be coming back next year.  Remember that only Katuka is a senior and two guys -- Copes and Davis were signed in September which used up Jabari's scholarship back then.

Can the coaching staff rescind a scholarship because of performance? Like, can they say to Fitz, "your performance is not up to par and we want the scholarship back"?  

Scholarships are 1 year contracts...

 So does that mean they can refuse to give a scholarship to any of their players if they want to(after at least 1 year)? 

In theory you can yank a scholarship after one-year for all sorts of reasons, but it's a bad idea because it really hurts future recruiting and sets a terrible tone for the program and the current team members. Most coaches are loathe to just "yank a scholarship" (unless they're in the SEC of course). They try and get the kid to leave on his accord by limiting playing time, making practice unpleasant, ignoring the kid, etc., etc.--all sorts of mean, nasty things.

The dominant big man in Berks and one of the top post men in the state averaged nearly a double-double in leading the Cardinals to a second straight District 3-A championship and the third round of the PIAA playoffs.

Despite facing constant double- and triple-teams and sagging zones, the 6-9 junior still managed to average 16.2 points and 9.8 rebounds while shooting 67.5 from the field.

Jack was at his best in the Berks Conference title game against Reading High, with 24 points, 16 rebounds and seven blocks.

He had a season-high 27 against Holy Redeemer, going against 6-11 Penn State recruit Peter Alexis.

In nine postseason games the Division I recruit shot 61.7 percent from the field and 73.9 percent from the line and averaged five blocks per game.

He has 1,199 points, 14th-highest in Central history.

He is just the third underclassman since 2000 to earn POY honor; the others were Central stars Alex Franklin, in 2005, and Dorian Sims, in 2001.

I'm sure there will be tough competition for Jack, but GW can now honestly tell a player that he'll be contending for the A-10 Championship at GW.

 I agree and I think we have a solid shot but this won't be like Davis or Loyd last year where this guy is sneaking up on anybody. He is getting Big East looks now I believe but the Marshall connection should help. 

 Just a reminder that Lonergan was recruiting him at Vermont, so he may still be a target for the 2012 class.

This guy doesn't strike me as the "corner stone signing." Of the folks of whom I have read here, I would think that  Tyler Cavanaugh is No. 1... matched up with a point/combo guard and a true big.

Hobbs really liked him alot.  Lonergan apparently recruited him pretty hard when he was at Vermont.  Mason is very interested.  And many others.  He will likely be a very good mid-major 4-5.  I would also guess that he would be an ideal fit what what Lonergan would want given that he's known for being VERY smart, very hard working, and very skilled offensively and defensively around the basket.  He apparently wants to study engineering.  I don't know how this complicates things, but Donyell was really in charge of recruiting him to GW given that Donyell has a relationship with him and his family since his son Marquis is on the same HS team.

I thought this kid would end up at GW.  I have to assume that the top prospects are the Montrose Christian guys?  

Catholic high school ........... Catholic college.  Those dots don't always connect, but if he's Catholic, too, that may have been enough of a connection. What would have been the GW connection?

Just figured the mutal interest GW had when Hobbs was here, and the fact Lonergan had interest while at UVM, just figured that would carry on.  Who knows though, based on ML's comments about needing to recruit Big East/ACC level talent, maybe he figured he was a viable target while at UVM but at GW he didn't fit the bill or wasn't what he had in mind for GW.  Not to say the kid won't have success at Duq.
