BM,
If you aren't one of the golden boy programs, what I most often remember is a good tandem in the back court for those teams that exceed way above pattern. You need to be rock solid in the ball and still present a scoring threat. As we know, we have to have guys who can light it up in high school to be much more confident that they can score at the college level. Savage and McDonald are proving to be scorers when they need to be... for Joe, that's an every game affair.
What we may be seeing is a special class. I am getting, for those older folks, is that Pat Tallent recruiting class feeling. More recently, we have that Hobbs big class feeling. At first, I thought that Lonergan would be satisfied with 3 or 4 quality guys who were a cut above, but now, I think that we may have the staff throw in all the chips on a big class.
If you blend in 4 or 5 guys who holdover, this could be some fun basketball for several years.
More over, what I really appreciate is the local flavor that will grab the attention of local basketball energy. This would make a nice mix with the international flavor--exactly what we had hoped with this coaching staff. What we do expect is that the players on the team now will work their butts off this season to be part of the next and beyond... or not.
