 Word on the street is that UVM's sports info department wasn't shedding any tears now that they don't have to deal with MikeLonergan.com's "content director." Apparently he was a constant nusance. 

So does anyone think that his willingness to actually use this new fangled computer medium means that ML will be frequenting this or some other site as I understand Phil Martelli does to explain or answer questions re: matters GW basketball?

I see the entire slate of Hobbs' staff, but for the M&W basketball teams' strength and conditioning coach, has been removed.

We had better be good this year. GW students are pissed about having the most hyped up recruit in god knows how many years leave because Lonergan wouldn't hire his uncle. No grace period!!

 No. With all this stuff we have going on students will not come to games if the team is not good. Regrettable sure but it's the truth. A hyped up prospect like Copes would have helped big time and the impression of many students who follow the team closely is that Lonergan pushed him away.

You have got to be one of the worlds biggest morons if you think Lonergan pushed Copes away. Really???

Let's be real here. If the team does well more students will come to the games. I definitely think Copes would have helped to create some hype for the team  but for those of you " who follow the team closely" you should be just as hyped about having Lonergan at the helm and not Hobbs!

 Cool Bacon Egg and cheese. Who else pushed him away...All he had to do was keep his uncle and all would have been well. But nooo, It's great that you stick up for the new coach at all costs but that doesn't make you any less wrong. 

Perhaps some folks in the administration pushed Copes away. Perhaps NCAA requirements and suspect high schools pushed Copes away. Perhaps an Associate Head Coach who used his own nephew as the sole reason for a job promotion last summer pushed Copes away. So many options.

I'm not even sticking up for coach Lonergan. Perhaps the fact that NOBODY he was expecting to play for is still on the staff - you know, that might have had something to do with. But that was Lonergan's fault, right? Haha. 

"All he had to do was keep his uncle and all would have been well" You're asking the coach to keep on an assistant who likely wouldn't even be around anymore if it weren't for his nephew, just so he can get one recruit?? That's ridiculous. And who's to say that Houston even wanted to stay at GW. 

I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with raising a coach's profile by being at Yankee Stadium for a good cause. GW wants a complete package in its coach and a day up in New York with a fellow CU alum ain't hurting.  Gee, any chance he also might have parlayed the trip into a discussion or visit with someone?  Coaches may not spend 24/7 doing their jobs but most of them undoubtedly spend inordinate hours focused on it in some way. Give me a break.

 I hate to agree with Neil but I would like to see some more activity from Lonergan. There's no problem with the Yankee game but what else is he doing? Since the extravagant opening day there has been no communication anywhere. I know there are players in the program who don't know what's going on. That's unacceptable. He needs to stop waiting for the Vermont job to fill and finish off his staff. Compare our situation to Maryland. Turgeon comes in there, contacts recruits, officially names a staff(including keeping an old guy what a novelty!)and has calmed that fan base. I don't know if Lonergan is hanging out in Burlington or with Levine but there are people involved in the athletic department who are quite surprised with his inactivity thus far. 

Aside from signing Sutton and a third assistant, moving all his stuff to DC and touching base with the entire team and the verbaled/signed recruits (whom he never met prior to two weeks ago), he is doing nothing.

 Where have these coaching moves been announced Herve? GMU hired Houston and announced it Monday just two days after it was broken by the media. How hard is it to send out a press release saying so and so has been hired?  How do we know he's done anything with the recruits. He clearly didn't do a good job "recruiting" Erik.  Spare me the moving stuff, that's part of the deal. I think Turgeon moving from Texas was more of a haul, especially considering he didn't have the family in the area that Lonergan does. I realize that some of this stuff is on the athletic department as well but c'mon. This program seems to be in a state of disarray right now. 

Yeah, it really sucks when a guy says something and you have to take him seriously. That only leaves you parsing integrity.

No coach is going to succeed if his highest priority is to satisy the insatiable demands and curiosity of an anonymous internet message board, let alone from a fan base with a notorious reputation for being something less than rabid.  Lonergan is neither novice or fool so I wouldn't worry too much that he isn't "on the job" and doing what needs to be done.  Last time I read the fable, that silly tortoise won the race so a little patience might be in order.  As for the school's publicity mill and athletic department communications, time will tell if we see a more proactive communicative operation. But we're being ridiculously naive to think that every detail and decision is going to be made public in a press release. And MV has it right elsewhere when he suggests that different parties have different perceptions and reasons to selectively share information. Never mind that the inside info message receiver may also have an axe to grind or biased wax in their ears.

Don't tell me that Houston wanted to leave because then why was he walking around campus all the time after Hobbs got fired. It's clear that Lonergan wanted absolute power and he couldn't get that if Houston was here so now he's gone taking our best recruit with him. By all means keep drinking the kool aid though.

You don't think Lonergan, a guy who praises solid defense, would want a guy like Copes? He just didn't think Copes was worth keeping Houston on his staff and I don't blame him and to you that translates "I AM THE KING AND COPES, NO YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED BECAUSE I AM POWER HUNGRY RAHHHHH" Please.. You must really love Copes and Houston (or really hate Lonergan). 

I think most would agree that it would be a bad idea to keep Houston just for Copes. It's retarded actually. In MY opinion, I'd rather Lonergan get a good guy that he wants who will continually bring in good recruits. Unless of course Houston has more family that we don't know about.
