Women's Coach Jonathan Tsipis had his introductory press conference and media availability at noon today at the Smitty.  He said all the right things, as did AD Nero and President Knapp before him.  No surprises there, and as expected, Coach Tsipis has already met with all four of next year's recruits as well as the current team ... let's hope he keeps all the recruits in the fold.

What impressed me is that every team he's been associated with to date has been from an outstanding academic institution, including, among others, UNC, Duke and Notre Dame.  The graduation rate under him and  ND head coach Muffet Mcgraw was one hundred percent.  Easy to see why Knapp and Nero liked him, and it'd be a bonus if f we did, in fact, beat G-town to the punch in landing Tsipis.

Good, brief event. ML and family present (along with assorted other coaches and admin types). He made nice and did photos with Tsipis. Nice/interesting that Tsipis (just skip T apparently in pronouncing the name) went on the road already to meet with recruits. They had a food spread but I had to go but it looked like Poog was going to eat whatever the players and Lonergan's kids didn't scarf down. Seems like a good get and Tsipis did say the right things (including paying homage to Joe (McKeown not Joe Deli).

Gee, rocket. You seemed to be standing awfully close to the food line during the prepared remarks. Left early or just fulfilling the food order from all those professor friends of yours? Didn't understand why there was a roll of tin foil by the table until someone mentioned something about a tall guy saying he had to fix a plate for someone.

My biggest worry during the event was that in the beginning of his remarks, the new coach kept saying THE George Washington University. It wasn't until the end that he finally called us GW. And then I knew he felt at home. Looks to be a great selection by AD Nero.  When leaving the event, I also spotted Coach Sutton on the street with the player we keep expecting to be our latest recruit. They seemed to be asking for directions to J Street. Good to see that we're keeping the meal budget for recruiting reasonable.
