John Marinatto is out as BIG EAST commish.  This is the end of the original BIG EAST lineage that began with Dave Gavitt and was passed on through Mike Tranghese and then John M.  Next, look for the BIG EAST to move its HQ out of it's original home of Providence RI.

I think Norfolk, VA would make a lot of sense for the new Big East HQ.

Is this a sign of the growing schism between BE football schools and BE non-football schools?  All the former BE's commishes had ties to Providence -- a non-football school.  It will be interesting to see if the BE stays in-house and hire someone with ties to a football school.  If this happens I would be somewhat nervous if I was at Nova, St Johns or G-town.

From what I am hearing, there is no chance of the replacement being an in-house candidate. Things are very fluid. There is still a chance that the non-football schools peel off....especially if the likes Lousiville and UConn seperate.  The smaller schools are really pissed, and they're being made to spend a ton more money on travel etc....More to be heard on this.

 Assume you mean no I-A (or FBS or whatever it is called now). In the A-10 that would be SLU, Butler, X, Dayton, UMassholes, URI, Fordham, LaSalle, Richmond, Duques, St. Bona, St Joe's and GW (did I forget anyone?). I think Richmond, UMass, Duques, Fordham and URI have I-AA football (as does 'Nova and That School Down the Street). 

Sad to see MArinatto taking the beating that he is t aking on the way out the door...especially from the drones at ESPN, but I have to say it's in part earned.  He left the flank totally exposed and got buried because of it.  He's a great guy, just the wrong guy for that job at this time, as it turned out.

If we want to knock the Big East down even a few more pegs, instead of join it, we just have to put Linda Bruno's name in the hopper as this guy's successor.
