Think back to the disaster that was the Atlanta openning ceremony.  Mr Bean would've been the star. 

Mr. Bean may suck, but Black Adder is comedy gold.  Brilliant television.

Perhaps Mr. Bean is the Anglo-Saxon equivalent of the late Jim Varney ("Hey Vern!").

The British also laughed at the same Benny Hill routine for nearly forty years. Cue the "Yackety Sax"...

I feel the same way towards Olympic opening ceremonies as I feel towards Super Bowl halftime shows.  Variety shows might be of interest to some people but what the hell do they have to do with a sporting event?  I bet all of Tom Cruise's alien overlords start to think they understand our civilization until they see one of these things and have their ontologies shaken to the core

I also really enjoyed the way the crack Today squad called the opening ceremonies like it was the Tournament of Roses Parade. All in all, an awesome show!

Only the Brits could even think of putting Mr Bean in a segment with the London Symphony Orchestra on the world's largest stage ....      Give the Limeys a break!    I liked it!

 I thought it was pretty awesome, but as noted, Meredtith Viera was terrible. It's like she was trying to be stupid on purpose. Plus considering it was tape-delayed, they really had no reason not to answer their questions, like who Tim Berners-Lee was.
