Was just looking at the Twitter Video Site and was surprised to see that we played a game and no one had posted about it.  Apparently we won the first game, over what looks like a very weak Naval base team (I'm guessing not the one that supposedly beat West Virginia last year, not that it matters). 

Kevin Larsen led the team in scoring with 13, (there are some nice video highlights and interview at the link where he credited the unselfish play of McDonald and Garino for it.   Also a video of a nice drop step and big dunk off a loose ball by Larsen. Garino also looks good in the few highlights they showed (at least 3 or 4 really nice passes).  Armwood and Mikic also get multiple highlights on there.

Bynes only scored 2, so whatever clip you saw wasn't a three.

 Not too off, colonials 37.  I saw the shot you thought was a 3 by  Bynes...and it looked pretty deep to me.  COuld not see the actual 3 point line, but it did not look like there was much room between where the shot was taken and the out of bounds line.

 As a guy who has played basketball in some Navy gyms (never good enough for a base team), I can tell you that it meant a lot to the Navy families to have a US college team run a clinic and play at NSA Naples.  I know some on here are complaining about the level of talent we're playing against, and that's a fair argument, but there are some good ex-high school players (and probably some college) playing in the Navy leagues.  This wasn't intramural-level competition.  That said, hopefully there is a boy or girl who is the child of a sailor on that base who has the talent to play D-1 basketball one day and may seriously consider GW simply because they met a few of our kids on this short visit.  Raise High and Go Navy!

 Good point, JP.  Hopefully, though, we will have a chance to play better compettiion on the trip.  Even if not. ,just having the team together and being coached has some benefits irrespective of the level of the competition, especially with 6 new players.

The point of these trips is way more a bonding experience than a pure basketball experience.  Also, don't underestimate how powerful of a recruiting tool it was for the coaches to say to the freshmen "come to GW and you'll immediately go on a long Italian vacation with the team."  The basketball stuff is just gravy after that.

Also may not be bad to prepare by playing two "exhibition" games against military teams before playing the "real" exhibition games against Italian teams. Kind of like major league teams playing games against a college team before starting their spring training schedule against other major league teams. Reality is that Lonergan gets early and extra practice time with his team and they get an amazing bonding and educational experience. Would seem to fit very well with the leadership and community involvement emphasis Nero wants to instill in the entire GW athletic program. Without getting Levinator too excited, GW athletics is embarking on a whole new level of commitment coming off the strategic plan and the arrival of Patrick Nero. Foggy Bottom isn't going to remain Mayberry and Floyd is going to have to start raising and charging real money to convert his barber shop to a hair salon. Last year was only a glimpse of the changes I expect will be happening in GW athletics.
