Sat next to a rabid X fan at last year's game who said he thought Wells would become one of the best Musketeers ever. Maybe he meant the candy bar.

Ouch.  With Tu Holloway graduating, Mark Lyons transferrring and Dez Wells getting bounced, a lot of teams are going to be licking their chops about the chance to pay the Muskies back. 

I have ZERO clue about this, but if he's that good, Bob Huggins or Frank Martin feel about right.   

The kid was crazy athletic, but a bit raw. Reminded me of Sato without the outside shot.

Herve, wow, Sato.  Now that's a name I haven't thought of in a while.  I think he and Ngomba (sp?) were the two most physcially sculpted players I've ever seen.

 tough jam.  I think X made the safe call.  All other schools get him knowing that he has been cleared which is a good thing for both him and the new school of his choice.

I fully expect a pull-out section and commemorative poster in WaPo tomorrow. They will talk about him and over-hype him. Great athlete, doesn't really have a position on the court, is a little out-of-control, but, if he works hard, could be decent.

Do you really think that ML would have turned down Dez Wells if he had the chance to get him???   Folks can trash him all day, but UMD's stock just rose. 

I don't know, GeeWhiz. How many Greek gods were there? Any how many can any one bball team roster tolerate? My guess, GW has its fair share.

Ziik, I don't follow.  Greek gods?  Break it down for us slow folks...like me. 

I'm not slamming you, GeeWhiz.

But The Post referred to to Dez in gushy prose, including a comment about him being built like a Greek God, etc. They, and other outlets, seemed to infer that he may be a prima donna. My opinion is that (whether we have any yet or not), most teams don't function well with a bunch of guys who have bloated senses of self-esteem. Self worth, great. Bloatedness, not so great.

So, there you go.

Herve's comments about the Post are more to the point. It's ancient history, but I recall years when a GW win over West Virginia made the Post as an AP wire story, while a Terp game against the same team, win or lose, was Page One headlines. It's been the same since the beginning of time, and will continue until the end of time.

Maybe I should have said, yes, Gee Whiz, we're weenies. But that would have been another post, for another day.

I again refuse to lament the Post's coverage decisions on local men's basketball. It reflects a good judgment (that Maryland and Georgetown have a national championship legacy, the fact they were decades ago does not matter) and a bad one (destaffing while failing to fill the void with aggregation or user-generated content). Our coverage will impove -- or should -- when we regularly sell out a 5,000-seat arena for which students are granted free admission. Meanwhile, no one should expect old-line media to do anything but whiff.
