BTW the guy transfering out of GT is Vernon Macklin was of the most highly recruited HS players in his year.  He was a 4 star Rivals rated #37 player in the country.  How did that work out for him or GT?  Also incidently, the trio that led GW to the greatest three year run in its history: Pops ZERO stars, Mike Hall, ZERO stars, Omar 3 stars - no position ranking.  Oh, Carl Elliott had 3 stars and no Rivals ranking.  But that's ok since Ricky Lucas was ranked by Rivals as the #132 in the country.  Where's he playing now? 

The point is that you don't need highly recruited HS superstars to run a very successful program.  I understand that last year was etremely disappointing for all of us for MANY reasons.  GW is not Kansas or Kentucky or Florida or North Carolina.  We're not going to get their recruits.  After much turmoil last year, Hobbs has hustled his butt off and filled vacancies with late bloomers and apparently off the radar guys.  Frankly with Jabari and Travis (and somewhat Katuka) coming back from injuries, I like the look of our lineup net year with Taylor, Allbritton, Ware, and Smith.  Add in Diggs who really elevated his game as did Wilmore, the steady solid play of Witherspoon, the emerging defensive and rebounding presence of avier, hopefully a big jump up by Damian, and the size and potential of Herman -- that could be a pretty deep and athletic team.

So we aren't reduced to only hoping for potential transfers - we're hoping for Hobbs to continue to do the great job that he has already been doing. 

GW fan, your last sentence implies that whatever is said in response to your post is going to be unacceptable to you anyway.  Anyway, here's to hoping that you keep an open mind because while I disagree with your viewpoint, it is a viewpoint nevertheless.

The last thing that anyone here would say about me is that I'm "complacent" when it comes to this program.  I am the author of the infamous "Mired in Mediocrity" post and have stated about 1,000 times that this program did nothing to capitalize upon the success of the 2005-06 season.  That said, about the one thing that I feel does not warrant negative criticism is KH's recruiting abilities.  Granted the jury may still be out on this year's freshman class but aside from the Pops-Mike-Omar class, along with JR who performed at a very high level as a freshman, I'm not sure where this hasn't been the case under KH.  Players like Maureece Rice and Rob Diggs saw limited minutes during their initial seasons at GW only to progress into key contributors.  We saw Damian take a small leap this past year and he will hopefully take a much bigger one net season.  The transfer discussion is a direct result of "Omargate".  KH wants the best possible players here and has made the decision that a mi of freshman and transfers is the best way to achieve this since he no longer has the "luury" of recruiting players essentially regardless of their academic backgrounds. 

So no, we are not ONLY reduced to discussing transfers (although when a prominent local player announces his intention to transfer, it's understandable that he could get some play here).  I discuss many aspects of the program where I'd like to see improvement (don't worry, I'll spare everyone).  But on the subject of player recruitment, this one's not high on my priority list of what needs improvement.

See the name.  I'm outraged.  I want GW to be a national powerhouse.  This isn't going to happen anytime soon.  Not anytime in the net decade, but i'm outraged that GW isn't taking the steps to at least TRY to get there.  Like I've said many times before:  Duke and Wake Forest aren't big schools.  They are both private schools with good academic standards.  I epect GW to move toward that level.  With no football team to support, Men's basketball should be the central focus of the athletic department. 

I realize we are not in a power conference.  I realize all the blowhards around here will say, "We're not them, we don't have ,y,z..."  The point is, WHY NOT!  Until the fan base demands more, we'll get the same 1/2 assed program we've been getting. 

I give many props to KH for doing what he's done, with the resources and support he's worked with.  We need to get on the athletic dept.  They are the cause of the lower epectations, thus lowered support and resources for the program. 

A.G.  your argument that our lack of a football team means there's more money in the pot for basketball is not only untrue but in fact completely counterfactual.  Football is a revenue GENERATOR, that's why even basketball conferences are reffered to as BCS and non-BCS.  In the world of college athletics finance, the rising tide of a D-I football program lifts all boats.  Meanwhile all the non football schools for the most part see their dingies capsized in the tsunami.  (notice I said most, there are eceptions which I'm sure you'll point to.  my only response would be that they're called eceptions for a reason)

I'm not arguing we shouldn't try to improve.  I'm just saying when there are structural inequalities in the game we'll always be trying to come back in the fourth quarter.

The answer to your question is... yes (until the Smith Ctr. renovation is done).
