I'll admit that I could only get to about the part where he was contemplating the bible before I figured I needed to get on with my life. Matt-- I hope you turn out to be a great player, do well in school and enjoy the GW eperience not matter how hethenistic it may be at times, but sorry, I am not a big fan of those who wear their religion on their sleeves (this applies to all religions, not just Christians, could also apply to politics as well). I'll let you be you if you let me be me. (Sorry about sounding pissy but I was accosted by two Mormon missionaries on the bus this morning who wanted to tell me about their religion, this as I was on my way to the house of a dear friend who is sitting shiva!).

Some of the best athletes in America are dedicated Christians, including Tebow of Florida State, Hamilton and Pujols (MVP of AMLe & Nat Le) not to mention Eli Manning  and hundreds more who play hard and follow Jesus.  The ability to get drunk, get girls preg and swear is not manhood.  I hope out of your anger you will someday discover that love is the most powerful force on the planet

First of all, I am Christian and my brother is a priest.  So I fee like I can say this.   What kind of a person comes to play basketball at a nice respectful school like and makes a freak statement like this?  All I can say, is he better be amazing on the court or people will think of him as a religious fanatic and an insensitive creep.  This seems like a very stupid thing to do, unless he's smart enough to not care about anything else.

After having watched him play yesterday, Albritton (aka, Eli Sunday)  had better perform an eorcism on the game ball, the basketball court and his uniform if he epects to score with any regularity.  Who brought him into the program?  Collucci????

I was ready to scold Florida Colonial for posting this, but Matt did put this video on an easily findable place on the internet.  If his faith is as strong as he represents then I would imagine that having people ridicule his beliefs is probably somthing he epects.

Still I don't like the hypocracy of this board where many posters scorn those who make remarks that could be seen as disrespectful to Jews, or Blacks, Gays, the desirability of having children out of wedlock, etc.  I don't like seeing those kind of comments either.  But bashing or ridiculing a kid because of his Christian beliefs isn't any different than making anti-Semetic, Homophobic, or Racist remarks.

Please Herve, consider deleting this thread.

Wait a minute....he put his video out there and it's not like he's afraid of standing on his own soap bo.  There's absolutely no reason to remove it (IMO).

As I myself said, Oscar, Matt did put this out there himself.  That doesn't mean that ridculing his religious beliefs or practices on this ultra-sensitive board should be embraced.  You Oscar are a sensitive guy about things that are important to you - and I never disagreed with you when you stood up for your beliefs or practices or when you've made critical comments about people who have made insensitive comments here.  I recall many threads about religious holidays and golf tournaments and other mentions of things related to Judaism.  All of that stuff (on both sides of the arguments), IMHO is just better left off this board.

Unless they are regular posters using different names, by my count I see 9 or 10 new GW basketball fans in this thread.  So Matt Allbritton is now more successful at marketing GW basketball than anything that has been attempted by Don Perno or Jack Kvancz in the past 6 or 7 years (which is basically nothing).

Thinker do you see any difference between challenging a racist remark or pointing out that it was wrong and insensitive for Jack/Dom to schedule a golf outing on the Jewish High Holy days vs. putting up a video like Matt did?  Either way, I'm one who would never take remove anything, but I see your point.  Religion can definitely be a flash-point

Oscar, I want to be clear.  I think Matt voluntarily put this video up and should epect some flack.  That doesn't mean we should indulge in that just because he brought it on himself.  I also see a difference in what JK has done alienating the fan base by having fundraising golf tournaments on religious holidays - It's just stupid and insensitive on his part.  He's not only an adult but the AD - he should know better.  I also agree that other racial and religious remarks that have been posted from time to time are offensive and should be condemmed.  So I agree with you on everything.  I just hate to see the board condone anti-Christian commentary even if any one of us happens to be Jewish or Atheist, or anything else.

I'm embarassed by some of you.  It didnt even occur to me that people would take offence to these videos. Think of all the worse things he could be doing  other than showing his faith.

I am new on this board, so forgive me if I'm coming on too strong. Matt Albritton is a George Washington Colonial. Can we not accept that? His boldness regarding his faith is etremely intriguing and enlightening. Not many kids have the kind of boldness that he does. If he was Tebow, we would be singing his (and his faiths) praises. I wish him and the team the best of luck this season!

As for Dootie Bubble goes, study Christianity and Judaism and see if they really are purely "magic".

This whole post is just sad, and a main reason why I don't check this site very often anymore.  God dammit guys, there have been tons of posts on this board before about not booing the players because they are kids.  Kids who are here to get an education, and play some ball.  But now, I guess it's no just ok to boo them, but hell, lets make fun of their religion too.   That make you feel good?   Make you feel like a big man?  Mocking a college kid.  You guys should be ashamed of yourselves.  You mentioned that he brought it on himself by posting this.  That may be true.  But an adult doesn't mock a kid.  Plain and simple.  If you really think that it's appropriate to do that.  To get on a message board, and mock a 19 year old kid, then you have serious issues.  I'm not the most religious person in the world, and don't really care what people believe.  What I do know is that I respect a person who devotes their life to something bigger than themselves.  I admire someone who tries to do the right thing, works hard, and lives the best life they can, whether they use a religious faith to do so or not.  I understand not wanting to be preached to.  But, it cuts both ways.  If you don't think mocking religion, or calling it "magic" isn't preaching in it's own right, then you don't have the least bit of awareness about the words you write and how others outside your social sphere read into things.  This is just sad.

Dootie, I respect your argument the least.  I've met people like you before.  Mr Logic, wanting to tear down people of faith because it makes you feel good about yourself.  Makes you feel superior.  Mr. Intellectual.  I pity you.  Getting your jollies of criticizing a 19 year old kid.  Admit it, your post made you feel good about yourself.   If you truly think that the "magic" is why people are religious, then you truly have no grasp of what faith is, and how most people actually use their faith in their daily lives.

Moral of the story is just this, if you really think it is acceptable to criticize a 19 year old kid of having faith, then you a just pathetic and the poorest representation possible of the GW community.  I hope Matt decides to transfer, he deserves better than having a bunch of cowardly middle aged men hiding behind screen names in an internet message board mocking his religion.  We all deserve better than that.

Porter, self-righteous much?  Read my comments why don't you?  Do I mock Allbritton once?  Not once by my count but I do think all this "religion is off limits" is foolish nonsense.  Mock atheism all you want because it's a belief.  I'm fine with that.  But am I allowed to feel more comfortable in a world where people base their beliefs on empirical evidence and not stories of old time magic?  Who is more right, I'd place odds on me but being a person who has no faith I can't tell you that with anywhere near 100% certainty.  That's the difference between me and the religious you smug little horse's ass.  Oh wait, I can say something with 100% certainty!

Why not leave it at this: Mockers, cut it out.  We are all entitled to believe as we see fit.  Matt (and defenders of Matt), believe as you see fit but do not attempt to preach or even subtly force your beliefs on anyone else.  When you post a video of this substance, you are dangerously bordering that fine line.  I'll assume it was meant as nothing more than a form of self-epression and leave it at that.

Here's something In My Name:  I wish this stuff was never posted.

I wish this kid all the best, i really do.  But he wasn't brought to GW to shine the light for us wayward souls, nor is he a "great athlete."

To me, he seems to be simply a bright, talented kid who is entitled to his beliefs and I am happy for him that he possesses that kind of conviction.

What I hope I don't have to hear is Matt or some of his followers using this "pulpit" to interject  their faith and belief on those of us interested in talking about BASKETBALL.

Matt didn't do it. So let's leave him alone.  And maybe the rest of the circus won't follow.

Dootie,

Call me self righteous or smug all you want, but I stand by my rant about mocking 19 year old kids.  I don't give a damn if you're right about whether there is a God.  That's not the point.  Comparing religion to magic was an attempt to insult, don't pretend that it wasn't.  Just because you can mock someone, doesn't mean you should.  That is the difference.  I'm calling you, and others, out for not acting like an adults and being hypocrites.  Many people here talk about not wanting to be preached to, but in the same posts are on their soap bo epressing their religious preferences (which for you in none).   That is the problem.  We should act like adults and show some self restraint, which is rare for this board.

Matt didn't post his message on this board.  He didn't make you go to his website to see this.  He didn't force you click on the link.  To argue that he somehow is pushing his religion on you is comical.  I think we all better chill on this, as it just makes us all look like pricks for attacking a kid for trying to share his faith in a different forum to those interested in listening.

Dootie, if I hadn't been raised in a very conservative Jewish family, I'd probably agree with you 100%.  But because I still practice, I can only agree with you about 85%.  Either way and as for Eli Sunday, I love his video.  While it doesn't look like he can play (I hope I am wrong about that) young Matt's already made a lasting impression on me.

Here's what I take from this heated debate:

(1) Matt is a religiouse young Christian who CHOSE to post his strong beliefs in a very public domain.

(2) I would guess that Matt sees this same kind of debate with others he meets and is accustomed to it.

(3) Dootie Bubble thinks religion is akin to magic.

(4) Some feel questioning the authenticity of religion very improper.  Several feel that saying this to a 19yo improper.

(5) Nobody that I ever met , or they ever met, "knows" the validity of relgion.  Period.  Even Mother Theresa wrote about her seriouse doubts.  But also about her moments of strong belief.  I do find this fact incredibly interesting.  Especially how fervent people get about something they just don't know and likely never will while on this earth.  In ANY other part of our lives this would be unacceptable and laughable.  This really says something, but  what that "something" is I can't answer.   When I've had a few free hours I've contemplated how we would all act if we knew for sure that there was no god.  Just how primitive we would all look to those many years from now who would mock us for devoting so much energy toward something we never could prove for good reason.  Or with an equally troublesome scenerio, if we found out for certain that there really was a god.  More etra time? What if it was the religion you beleived and talked about as silly.

(6) All of us on Herve's site either hope or pray that Matt turns out to be a good basketball player for GW.  B/c that is what this site is about.  Freaking GW college basketball.

Is there a Winners Edge Church?

If so, would it be based on location (maybe there is a town of Winners Edge?)

Otherwise, it wouldn't sound like a long established house of religion.

Anyway, it is good to know Matt has  Winners Edge behind him.

His first shot certainly reflected that, though not the others.

I made a decision months ago to not respond to this board. But this is obviously a different matter. I will make a few brief comments (unknowing to Matt). I'm sure the board will soon get back to basketball.

Matt is a very quiet young man who spent most of his life doing missionary work in Africa, Asia and  in some 30 countries. The work included helping the poor and orphans with food, clothing, etc. Because of these travels, Matt was never on a school team until the 8th grade and never played a season of AAU. Because of our wok, Matt moved with us to various cities and countries. Matt played for 5 different coaches and teams in 5 years (including 3 years in Florida and 2 years in Teas.) In spite of these negatives, Matt managed to score 2181 points with 246 3 pointers. This got the attention of 27 D-1 Coaches who were constantly calling or emailing us regarding Matt.  Matt believes all of this happened because of God, therefore he always wants to divert attention from himself to the Lord. However, he was shocked to see his videos on the sports board.

Matt loves Christ, but also loves everyone equally, regardless of race, religion or background. He wants to spend his life helping young people reach and accomplish their dreams. He wants to teach basketball to 3rd world kids.

Matt is ecited to be playing for Coach Hobbs and GW. They're all hoping for a very eciting and successful season.

I hope each of you continue to enjoy basketball. It's a great sport and GW has a phenomenal program. And for you who believe in God, please pray for the entire team and the coaches. Also, pray for Matt's shooting hand, as he injured it yesterday in practice.

Thanks! The best is yet to happen!

David Allbritton

Matt's dad,

Thank you for comming on to our board to correct the record. It's embarassing that some fans of the program would find anything wrong about a young man talking about his faith.  Matt seems like a good kid so credit goes to your family for his upbringing.

Coach Hobbs said that Matt will be a fan favorite at GW since he can really shoot the ball. I think he's right as Matt starts draining long 3s from all over the court (of course he's going to have to play enough D for Hobbs to leave him out there but that will come with time).

I am somewhat amused by this thread.

I recently had a friend of almost 20 years say to me, parenthetically, "You being an atheist..." and I said "WHAT?!" ...

and she stopped in mid-sentence and immediately apologized. Of course, I immediately said, don't worry about it and said that I found it really funny and that I wasn't at all offended. Having talked at least once a week and shared dinners and parties, she had never heard me once say anything about my religious beliefs.

I pointed out that having a belief in God is a personal thing for me. It's important in the way I lead my life and I find that it directs both how I deal with other folks in the business world and personal, but also how I spend my time when I am volunteering. I do not believe that non-religious people can live a wonderful life and be charitable and welcoming to their fellow humans.

All I have in my world is faith. By its very nature, it is simple belief.  That's all not much more than that. Nothing there to be proved or disproved. As I said to my friend, whatever you say will not shake my belief. I neither start discussions about nor shy away from religious topics.

Clearly, Matt and Matt's dad (please forgive me not properly addressing you) will not be affected by a few comments from GWHoops. With 1,000s of readers and hundreds of posters, we will have a cross-section of society here as eist everywhere. From the great posts, Matt and his family have a lot to share with the community as a whole. You know, people have said that I just believe in magic before, and I just say,I guess so. And, it wasn't anyone less than my own daughter who questioned my faith. I could do nothing more and just point to the evening sky and all the stars and say that I can't personally understand what they are doing up there and what the two of us are doing down here other than through my faith.

All I can say is that, from Dad said, Matt has probably invested more time in helping others in his youth than most of us do in our entire lives. For the past few years, now, we have gotten into a deserved habit of thanking folks for serving in the armed forces. We should also consider doing the same for those who give of themselves for charity and service to humanity. Having grown up with a bit of the same nomadic life style myself, I am sure that Matt will enjoy GW as much as I did.

I should read what I am typing ...

Edit error,  I DO BELIEVE that non-religious people can live a full and giving life ....

As I also believe, by the way, since I am editing and amending... that folks who claim to be religious can do very terrible things, even in the name of their God.

Dolphin, I connected with most of what you wrote. I appreciate that you don't run around and try to shove your beliefs up everyone's ass, but I do wonder how anyone could have a good friend for almost 20 years who knows very little about your core values.  It's not a bad thing; it's just odd to me.

Anyway, I like what you wrote and you've got me thinking about a lot of it.  I do have a question for you....  Why do you believe that non-religious people are incapable of living wonderful lives and that they can't be charitable and welcoming to their fellow humans?  I know many people who don't believe in God who are incredible and live amazingly fulfilled lives.  For eample, I know an atheist doctor at NIH who spends almost all of her time working with terminally ill patients as she advances potential treatments for cancer.  She is one of the best people I have ever known.  I know many atheist athletes who volunteer time with less fortunate people.  I know many religious people who are also great people.  My point is that I know lots of people who believe in God and lots who don't believe in God and there I perceive no correlation between their levels of "goodness" of self-actualization.

I'm not afraid of setting myself up here.....What am I missing Dolphin?

Religion, like politics, does not belong on this board, even though I believe that the original post containing the link to the video does, as it tells us something about the recruit.  As for Rachel, Sharon, Rick, Lynn and the rest of the "amen chorus" who would like to convert us all, just go away.

Yeah I was doing a couple of things at once. THanks Chris. Anyway, who thinks that there are rules that we must live by to be civil. The best way to have a civil entertaining discussion is to be civil and entertaining, when you discuss something.

Oscar, there is something about a web board that makes people say things in a way that they would never say in person. All I was going to do is suggest that people who have traveled as far and wide to support folks in so many corners of the world, are not going to be that surprised by a chatboard.

Though I tend not to say many negative things about players, I would also like to think that they(the players and the coaches) would be OK with what I write. All last year, comments were being made that we lacked a true outside threat. We, at GW used to have a tradition of outside bombers. We had the Tallents, Magid, Holleran and on and on. ... TJ would light it up and Rogers could put some teams in a hole. Matt brings some of those same numbers and skills to Foggy Bottom. We are going to have to see what happens. Right now, Noel has many of the same skills and has 3 years on him. Matt can spend his freshman year absorbing the team concepts of Hobbs. He can grow into the college game.

It's not every day that a freshman player's dad comes on to the board to set a few rascals straight.  Thanks David.  Frankly- the only thing that concerns me on this thread is Matt's apparent hand injury.  The rest of this prose is mildly entertaining- with the natural schism between arduent intellects and arduent zealots.  IMHO-  Each one has the right to their opinion but neither should be tasked with eploiting their beliefs on the site.

I'd like ot speak to a point that was previously brought up comparing this thread to a prior one regarding a fundraiser with a major scheduling conflict

Mr. david Albritton- you are under no obligation to defend your faith or your son's history just because a couple of knuckleheads here do not share the same beliefs.  Frankly- they too have the right to epress themselves.  However- what gets lost in all of this translation- is that this forum is not the time nor place for a debate about religious beliefs.   Religion can play a role on this board when, say, the administration of this fine institution schedules a big fundraiser on the day of rosh Hashanah and/or a fundraiser on say, Palm sunday.  That is simply not acceptable and should be disussed by this community.  Notice how we aren't discussing the merits of a specific religion, but rather, the careless scheduling of a fundraiser that a significant portion of Gw alumni couldn't attend due to a major religious conflict.  we are not talking about Sukkot here folks, but New Years Day in the Jewish religion.  At no point in that thread did the issue of Christianity VS. Judiasm Vs Magic etc. come up.

Mr albritton- all I ask is for you to give the long standing posters on this site and the various thousand who read it each year- the benefit of doubt.   Most of us would be suffice to see your son ecel in Buff and Blue and cheer him on as he represents our dear university in whatever future endeavors life may take him.

As for some of you peeps - and you know who you are- take a chill pill.  FC had the right to post the video here but what followed was as predictable as it was unfortunate.   The minute you introduce religion in a dogmatic way on a site like this- you run the risk of opening up both sides of the spectrum as it pertains to the actual belief in faith/religion.  When posters remain annonymous, you run the risk of threads like this one eposing the contrasting opinions of very educated but "devout" basketball fans

Because Mailvan, like others, stupidly suggested that Matt ought to limit his self-epression when the young man had not posted anything on this site in the first place. So now he's backing off what he said, like he often does.

You,  Alum, saw that Matt had not posted his video here and is blameless even for a perceived slight. Good for you. The guy who posted Matt's video clearly meant no harm in doing that either -- just giving us some insight into a new GW player, nothing more. It's not much different than pointing out that this player does charity work, or Mike Hall did inner city tutoring, or maybe some other GW athlete helps out at nursing homes. So what?

But it looks like some of our educated and otherwise reasonable buddies get all medieval when it comes to religion, and absolutely Palinesque when it comes to self epression. When we act like this, it sometimes makes me wonder what century and what country we're living in.

I'm not keen about religion myself, and dislike being preached to by any sect. But it's an easy enough thing to walk away from or otherwise ignore, and it's absolutely no threat to me.

It's a shame the way Matt was scapegoated here, when he did absolutely nothing.

Politics and religion are the best things to argue about.  Don't think of it as attacking people's sacred beliefs, think of it as pissing people off as sport.  The former suggests there are some absolute truths whereas the latter recognizes bullshit as king.

DB! Two topics tha "could" be discussed, if people didn't take things so seriously. In fact, I run a discussion/happy hour on Thursdays in a near-in suburban restaurant bar that folks are invited to, if they wish and, at least, politics, business and economics are a common discussion. Re-started a few weeks ago... I am sure than any attendees from the hallowed halls of GWHOOPS will be accepted with open arms as the original attendee from the group.

Lev, your request for a summary prayer, a benediction, as it were?

May the Lord bless us with wisdom, kindness and charity as we make our posts 24/7. We are but humans yearning to be pithy and funny and all-knowledgeable about things of Basketball at GWU. For we are from the school that brought us "push to talk," and from the city where there lives a great leader who has God on his Friends and Family plan.

Lord, please help us say the right things and help us remember that we are all living our lives in the great American Judeo-Christian-Islamic-Hindi-Bhuddist-Shinto-LDS (minus the underwear thing)-Friends-Shakers-Cathars-Ethicists-Agnostics-VehementlySecularists-NotreDameFootballFans tradition ... wait, skip that last group as they are Cathars who believe that this eplains Charlie Weis.... anyway, this tradition of "melting pot" humor and good natured teasing is part of the board.

May we all be blessed with an understanding of  the substitution patterns of Karl Hobbs. Lord, shower down upon us the wisdom of Solomon or Feinstein so that we may comprehend the great mysteries of our schedule. Bless us with the ability to top each other with one bombast loaded statement after another and especially bless our fearless summarizor, Levinator, who will speak with your  voice, or some voice, maybe the voices of those great basketball greats of all times.... even back to the pre-Columbian times that are of GW. May he serve well  the community of the GW fan. May he ge guided by the holiest of all holy phrases of GW, "net year."

Lord, bless us with a happy A10 season, a season of joy and sorrow--of highs and lows(but never after 40), but  also and most importantly, a season of enlightenment. May each fan make the journey as we are want to do, to the great Smitty. To circle around the concession stands three times waiting for the lines to receed and give us a chance for the holiest and oldest of all dogs. May we be allowed to kneel and pray at the holiest spot in GW basketball world, the endzone wall net to the cheerleaders. Possibly, oh Lord, may we see the relics of GW hoops: The towel bearing the sweat-soaked visible impression of Mike Brown's face, the Buonarotti sculpture of Randy Click passed out ont he Cole Fieldhouse floor, the jacket of Calipari, Mike Battle's shoe lace, Mike Zagardo's weight belt or the shot that Bob Tallent didn't take.

Above all, Lord, we pray as one that you may deliver 22 wins... and NIT seats.

Final thoughts and new insight.   Matt's passionate about Christ but does not consider himself religous.   Matt is simply a follower of Christ.

Matt's grandfather fought in WW2 and contacted an incurable disease- a japanese blood disease and was given 5 months to live.  He gave his life to Christ and Jesus healed him completely.  Matt's mom was told by DRs. that she would never have children   The Lord also healed his mom as Matt and his twin and his older sister are all miracles of God.

Like Tebow,  Matt is  an ordained minister and plans to play pro ball overseas where he  has already  drawn interest and hopes to someday teach BB to kids in Africa and Asia.  But more than anything, Matt plans to help GW get back to the big dance with his  athleticism and passing.  His 3's are a given and can shoot them off the dribble.  Matt never missed a game with an injury and looks forward to a great, healthy GW career.

My uncle suffered from severe anal fissures and his doctor told him that they were the worst he'd ever seen and that the fissures may never completely heal.  As some of you might know, anal fissures can be incredibly painful and can lead to horrible and painful bacterial infections.  So, this is no laughing matter.  Anyway, subsequent to hearing this horrible news, my uncle decided to dedicate his life to the Lord and he was healed so completely that the fissures never opened again, even when he passed stools that were almost as hard as rocks.

I am delighted that Matt is on the team and I'm looking forward to watching him help lead our Colonials to victory during his time with the Buff and Blue.

Family Friend, I have bit my tongue several times while reading this thread and I'll acknowledge that it has been several posters, not just yourself, who have caused me to do so.  I have no idea whether your remarks are sincere or whether the readers of this thread are being punked.  In either case, I've got to question your repeated remarks about Matt.  You've said on more than one occasion that Matt has never been injured yet ironically, he's already had two injuries prior to December.  You speak of his athleticism which, at least when compared to an average division 1 basketball player, looks to be etremely subpar.  You've commented on his passing skills yet all I've seen here is Matt passing the ball around the perimeter and nothing more.

You and Matt are entitled to your religious beliefs and I for one am not looking to change these (although I would call into question how often the subject of religion should be brought up on a basketball message board).  However, there is a difference between supporting Matt and wanting to see him do well as opposed to building him up for a big letdown. Maybe his game will come around to the level you're suggesting but personally, I do not see it.  What I do see is you and others portraying his game as something that it is clearly not.  Which in the end, does Matt a disservice.  Therefore, my unsolicited advice is that if you truly want to support Matt, cheer for him and the team, but stop making his game out to be something that it is not (at least on a Division 1 level).

Matt has a lot of people who have seen him play and feel strongly that he will be a D-1 star, including D-1 coaches and  pro coaches from various countries .  I don't know how many times you've seen Matt play, but he's only played a few minutes for GW.  However, Matt has several friends posting here and I know his dad has tried to stop it.  The Allbritton family has friends in 46 states and Matt has played in 4 differant cities.  I can't speak for everyone but I'm sure this post will always be about sports.  However, Jesus Christ is very real.  God heals, saves and delivers.  I am so happy for Longing for an Oscar and that wonderful testimony.  Josh Hamilton was addicted to drugs and went through 8 rehabs without success.  Yet, after becoming a Born Again Christian he was delivered from drugs and became a major Baseball star.  Regardless of our situation, Jesus is and will always be the answer.  Regardless of his success at GW,  Matt will represent GW with class and distinction.  Regarding injuries, Matt never missed a game until 1 game vs Auburn and his dad says he should play this week.  A matter of fact, Matt never  sprained his ankle til last week.  Drs. said he would be out 2 to 4 weeks and it turns out to be 1 week.  Hundreds of games injury free.

Long Suffering Fan had it right!  Herve, please shut down this post.  It has gotten out of hand and is going to leave needless bad feelings.  It started out as a post calling attention to Matt's off-court, non-basketball, non-student activity of making a religious based video on U-Tube.  It was inappropriate to this basketball board at that time but the poster thought it was a harmless bit of non-basketball trivia on a new player appropriate of off-season banter/gossip.  In retrospect, this topic should not have been posted.

Matt's father and friends have found it necessary to go on this board to eplain or defend Matt's religious beliefs again and again.  Matt's beliefs do not need to be defended because there is no cause or need or right to challenge them by anyone on this board.  Matt's family and friends should not be put in this position.   On the other hand the thread also discusses basketball skills so MV as a poster might argue that he only calls attention to Matt's basketball prowess only and therefore are his posts are OK.  However, since the family/friends posts contain religious themes, MV feels he should argue that the religious minded posts do not belong here so he is within proper bounds to call them on it.  He is not entirely incorrect.

The result is that MV's posts end up partially on solid ground yet still offensive to some.  That is so because the post is intertwined with religion and GW basketball.   That is not MV's fault but the flaw in the post itself -- which is why it should be deleted as suggested by LSF.  I believe that you, Herve, thought the post would die on its own but it keeps being resurrected (not like Lazarus).   You could start a new thread on Matt without the religious references/discussion.  We could discuss simply his basketball petigree, prowess (or lack thereof) or his vaunted three-point shot ability (hey MV, the first shot Matt ever took in college basketball, during the West Georgia State-GW ehibition game, was a three-pointer: not many college freshmen can claim that kudos).  Also, we can all uniformily castigate any poster who starts prostelyzing or attacking religion on the post as inappropriate without that being construed as an attack on Matt or his friends or his family since the thread will be purely a basketball thread.  We cannot honestly say that about this thread because it is based on a religious event (Matt's U-Tube sermon).

We can all acknowledge that, in the past, the MV-Ziik-Blue Seats posting controversies got incredibly acerbic: all over T-shirts, schedules, Kvancz /Penders and JR's kids.  Now just think how nasty, rasty, dirty and downright hateful a religious controversy would spiral into eventually, what with the "players" on this no-holds-barred board.   This board is a forum on basketball discussion with Fight Club rules.  Matt and Dad, the gladiators in Rome's Coloseum didn't have it as bad as some of the treatment meted out to hapless posters here.  Herve, drop this post.

Some on this Board, such as BM or Dottie Bubble, might question my sincerety in posting this idea: that I am the last one who can lecture posters on the benefits of avoiding controversy or strident arguments.  Well, the truth be told I have amended my ways.  The old CJS-Fan personna is gone.  I realized that my style was ruinuous to Herve's board.  Herve spends a lot of time and money on this forum and he lets people come on board without any controls, just on trust.  Neither I nor anyone has a right to use that trust to come onboard and ruin the discussion.  I finally "got it" so I do not post vitrolic, ad hominom  attacks anymore.

Herve, drop this post.

Seriously, "Friends of Matt"..........your man would be be better off if you sit in the back pew and pray silently.  You know the old bible story about the people that need to be seen wearing religion on their sleeve.....?  Right.

By the way....if Matt's doesn't think his passion for Christ is religious......I guess maybe it depends what the definition of "is" is.

Oh oh.

Two points:
1. I don't think we should hold Matt accountable for what his family/friends/stalkers say.
2. I would like some of his family/friends/stalkers to pray for Dootie Bubble to win several million dollars in the lottery.  If I win I will consider it a miracle and start drinking the Jesus juice.

You know guys- last night I spent a few hours prepping this thread for the Recap.

Today- I'm no closer to the finish line!  Sorry CJS-Fan...there is no shot herve will pull this thread now.  This became too delicious too quickly.

This thread has jumped to the top of the cue and I pray, with all the devoted bones in my bones... that the Recap will be enjoed at some point later tonight!

I guess the train wreck was inevitable!  For what it's worth, the link that started this initially was a video of Matt and a couple of Teas girls shopping in a mall.  He said it was the randomest video ever (or there about), and he was right.  A bunch of kids shopping for cowboy boots and stuff like that.  Frankly I couldn't watch the whole thing as it was BORING (sorry Matt, take some filmmaking courses and try again!).

But somehow, after the link was posted (and I think this is what happened, I'm not positive though) he put his religious clip on You Tube.  The link that was on here, went directly to the newest clip, so now we were seeing the religious Matt, instead of the goofy high school kid with a video camera, we got the praying kid.

Soooo, by a stroke of luck this thread ended up being a religious jihad.  I think it's a stroke of bad luck as I agree that we should leave politics and religion off of this board.  But that's just me.  You all can talk about whatever floats your boat...I don't have to read it!

Then again, you don't have to read what I've got to say either.  So stop reading already.

Chris

P.S.  Dolphin Michael...for what it's worth you don't need permission to respond to anything I say.  I wasn't sure why you implied that, but for what it's worth, I don't mind having my chops busted.  I'm married.  I have a teenaged kid.  I'm used to it.  And Dootie, as for Politics and Religion, you and I are close on one, and far far away from each others on the other.  And even futher away on NCAA football, and states!

Chris, Every train wreck needs a recap... since I watch those things, I was pushing the thread to the recap trigger point. Clearly, it wasn't needed. Off to meetings, but then I will check in to see if recap'ed or knee cap'ed.

Sorry, but i don't see any train wreck here; everything I've read here seems fairly reasonable.

Now, back to things related to GW basketball.  I have a question for Family Friend....

FF, since I am a Jewish Colonials fan and reject the notion that Jesus is my savior and redeemer, am I doomed to an eternity hell?  And if so, will I see Te Silverman or Arnold Jacob "Red" Auerbach there?

May blessings be upon you and your family.

To cite that great religious philosopher, David Clayton Thomas..."I swear there ain't no heaven and I pray there ain't no hell".    If there was, Oscar, you and MV would go straight there for the way you treat my buddy ziik.  (I don't think this thread could survive the resumption of that feud).

LSF, if you want to be buddies with a dishonest, racist anti-semite, be my guest.  And, if you've accepted Jesus as your savior I guess you get a free ticket to heaven too!  Doesn't seem fair to me, but congratulations.  You still haven't answered my question.

Dootie, I don't know.  Are we?

ziik at times may be a little outspoken and may at times over-react to what he seems to be the slightest provocation.  But having known ziik professionally from a case we were on together about 15 years ago, and somewhat personally through GW Hoops, I can comfortably say that he is none of the things that you say he is Oscar.   He is a good and decent man whom I am proud to call a friend, just as I suspect I would find you to be also should we ever meet.

With credentials like that and all the openings in the Senate and the House, I think we are going to have a hard time keeping or man Ziik out of the halls of Congress!

Reading GWHoops is sometimes like studying a lava lamp to find the meaning of life--at the end of the day, you may have learned very little of use, but it is always fun to watch!

Tuna -  the Recap is set to go off within the hour.  It's a dandy...i hope!

With tremendous faith in all that is and all that will be, I submit this, my first in-season    Levinator Recap of the 2008-9 GW campaign.

A lot has happened since we last met you know.  Outside our small and apparently newly “devout” hoops community, the world has taken a few turns south.  Ongoing financial crises are affecting growth and stability around the world’s most refined countries.  Nations are dealing with social and public unrest as they pump billions into their markets and industry with the hope that the greed of some does not cripple the dreams of many.

With the recession fear a reality and the Ameros a distinct possibility, the G-7 nations and beyond are planning for the worst…a nuclear Iran, a revived Russian superpower, a Chavez regime until 2022, etc.   What role does religion play in the world’s uncertainty?  Are we facing the inevitable world war between the Judeo-Christian nations and the Fundamentalist Muslims with their Pseudo-Communist allies?

If Jesus is here today…what is he telling all of our followers?  Would herve be commissioned to build a nuclear-safe website, capable of protecting GWhoops.com and its loyal posters?  Would Tuna be stockpiling Bumble Bee in an underground nuclear-safe enclave two miles deep into the surface of the earth?  Would Dootie blow Bubble balloons in support of our savior?  Well, frankly, we shall see in this thread!!  Personally, I really do wish for protection from the second coming NOW, at least to protect my 401k.  Damn it.  Whenever this board faces up against possible internal division…old nasty undertones resurface and the true sport of anonymity is tested.  No better eample then within this thread seemingly about Christ as a redeemer, freedom of speech, epression and Religion at its core but actually, so much more!  So, please, my dear congregation unite with me or simply indulge me with some moments of laughter, fun, ecitement, praise, laud, etol, ye unto thee, thine ye thine.)

So, what’s wrong with a little religion in sports?  We are seeing it more now than ever.  Every televised event ends with some group prayers from players on both teams, and then post game interviews filled with “thank the lord”, “Jesus gave me the ability to run” etc.  Top-notch athletes are even ordained these days before they reach 20. All- American athletes like Dootie’s Tim Tebow and herve’s Joel Penton have brought religion to the forefront of their lives and thus, to their college’s devout fan base.

So, without further ado, I bring to you all, my dearest anonymous friends of the world, the first edition this year of the Levinator Recap, sure to make you laugh or cry, praise or despise.  The thread, infamously entitled, “Check out these Matt Albritton videos”, and respectfully submitted by Florida Colonial has been recapped below for some quality shitter reading!

(To all newcomers, religious or not:  all previous recaps appear in the RECAPS section above.  Their purpose is not to offend in anyway, but rather, to enjoy, you know---laugh.  Hopefully!  Life is too serious.  Hook yourself and live a little)

  1. Florida Colonial (the only place where a Bush still wins) - links us to one of our freshman recruits, Matt Albritton’s homemade video about Jesus and redeeming and etc.  If you want any proof that it’s really a video done at GW, just look at Matt’s bed for evidence.

  1. Rachel (and the lord has brought me unto thee) – Thinks this video is “awesome.”  No way!

  1. Longing for Oscar (LFO, Coman, OBC, but never BS’s us) - apparently introduces sarcasm into the thread.  Matty reminds him of Eli Sunday, ecept that, of course, Eli Sunday is playing!

  1. Dootie Bubble (ummm…possible antichrist?) – Reminds us all that he is unfortunately a Gator fan.  So, if you’re able to get by that and still respect anything he says, he opines that it’s a lot easier, based on “firsthand eperience”, dealing with the proselytizing when the wins start rolling in.   Either this is an indirect reference to Mr. Tebow or to that one random day when he banged that Jesus freak in the back of his Ford Taurus after a big day at the local OTB.

  1. Sharon (like Rachel- new and not very outspoken) – inserts, “This awesome”.  Um, did we just see the same video?  All I saw was some tall white boy with a prayer book, using clips of Mel’s Jesus movie and some psalms from his belly to remind us that our redeemer lives.  Awesome, not really.  Nicely done…sure.  But awe inspiring?

  1. Lynn (and you thought those who love Jesus talked a lot) – also credits Matt with an “awesome video.  A great reminder that Jesus loves us.”  Okay folks, enough is enough.  Is this video really awesome?    I’m glad you recently joined our community, and g-d only knows how much we need new blood around here, but, perhaps we ought to define the word “awesome” again.  Webster’s defines awesome as “epressive of awe.”  And then goes on to define awe as, “an emotion variously combining dread, veneration, and wonder that is inspired by authority or by the sacred or sublime.”  Wow.  Was Levinator wrong or what!  I guess if you consider Jesus to be an “authority” or “sacred” and you feel that Matt’s video made your veins run bloody with dread, veneration and wonder…than this video was “awesome!”

  1. Rick (not slick but doing my thing) – Makes a more logical analysis my mind when he vents, “Nicely done Matt!.”

  1. njspride (not really feelin’ the awe, more Jersey pride) – Wants to ask Matty boy for some editing tips.  Yeah that whole belly Psalm thing was just out of this world!

  1. Hatchet Man (burning out his a up here alone) – Clearly isn’t into the whole religion and sports thing.  With a show of disgust, “Ugh”, he requests that Matt “just play the game.”  This is the beginning of the thread theory that religion doesn’t belong in sports and that perhaps, the sport itself, just might be bigger than those that play it and their damn religions!   Discuss.

  1.  steveg202 (that’s Stevie from my DC crew…to the newcomers) – what’s up 202?  It’s Lev from the 631 son!  What the hell did you say in this post?  I’ve tried to cap it baby…but I felt it best to give you a shout out instead!  I think you were referring to some possible GW game video where Matt actually plays against Div 1 and scores lots of pts.  Lol

  1. T Man (and the converted prophetic masters of the Jewniverse, T MAN) – Is also awed!  He lets Matt know that he’s da man!  He thanks him for his effort and courage.  He knows it’s not easy…but…it’s well worth it.  He ends by giving a shout out to the Colonials!

  1. GW Alum Abroad AKA GWAA (AKA Free NIT Ti for Levinator) – I love when a thread has GWAA in it.  You know it’s gonna have emotion and reason and always real.  First, he like I will now admits that the first time he watched the video, he didn’t actually finish it.  Unlike GWAA, I do believe, I did watch it thrice to produce this recap masterpiece for all to enjoy.  He then goes on to wish that Matt turns out to be a great GW-baller do well in school and enjoy the whole college eperience.  However, he is clear when he describes his lack of affinity for those who “wear their religion on their sleeves” and that that applies to all religions.  He apologizes for sounding pissy, but, “he was accosted by two Mormon missionaries on the bus” that morning who were proselytizing and all he wanted to do was get to “the house of a dear friend who was sitting shiva!”  Really…you just can’t make this shit up.  Let’s keep rollin’.

  1. alum1 (DJ ALUMone and MC Levinator…flash up your lighter inside hey hey) – Responds, “Good lord!”  As opposed to BAD Lord!

  1. gdubbnbc (works for GE, but loves GW) – Wow…was he wrong with this opinion!  “Nothing GOOD can come of this thread.  Let’s move on and talk about, you know, basketball.”  Ha ha.  Classic post.  Early nomination for post of the thread.  If only he knew then, what he knows now!  Lol.

  1. crooked serpent (some may argue BS, some DB, some CJS-fan, some Ziik and some may even say Mailvan) – Wow.  This poster gets it going!  Yeah!  So much hate!  Yeah.  I love it…Levinator loves it.  So real!  Crooked declares that the video was “so awful.”  Now that the first derivative of the word awe in a negative light.  Filled with so much dread in a bad way!  No veneration or wonder!  He contends that Matty boy was crying like a baby and that he was not grounded in reality.  However, he does look on the bright side!  “when we get decimated in every game because albritton is too much of a jesus-wuss to play, we can just blame on the devil.”  Now that my dear friends, was “awesome!”

  1. Standing Strong (and united, is the greatest team of all) – Now that are socks and shoes are off: He reminds us all that some of the “best athletes in America are dedicated Christians, including Tebow of Florida State”.  Wait stop right there.  Isn’t that sacrilegious?  How could one confuse FSU with the Gators?  DB?  For amusement only, I will continue to recap this post.  S.S. finishes with, “The ability to get drunk, get girls preg and swear is not manhood.  I hope out of anger you will someday discover that love is the most powerful force on earth.”  Now I’m not certain if this was directed to Crooked Serpent or to all of us in general but, I always thought that my ability to get drunk WAS manhood.  Cause as a little tike, the bourbon just didn’t go down as well.

  1. Sign of the Times – (would that be NYT or perhaps WT) – This post really threw me for a loop.  He/She starts off my stating that he’s a Christian and that his brother is a priest.  Then he states, “What kind of person comes to play basketball at a nice respectful school like and makes a freak statement like this?”  I admit, it was at this point, that I stopped my recap analysis and watched the video again.  Freak statement?  Was I missing something?  The poster also suspects that if Matt isn’t amazing on court, people may suspect that he’s a religious fanatic and an insensitive creep.  What?  How was he being an insensitive creep?  Oh vey…  what is Lev missing?

  1. Florida Colonial (like a schoolgirl who retracts from her comments about the bus driver‘s advances once she’s questioned by police) – Amazingly replies that he was sorry to post this thread.  Why?  This was delicious and in so many ways?  Well done my friend.  I commend you for your find.  He adds that he never thought people would take this so damn seriously and that he was happy to have a player like Matt who was dedicated to his beliefs.  I agree it was great fro you to post.  So stop apologizing...you damn apologist.

  1. Ron (Ado ron ron) – Injects, “Good morals, strong beliefs and a great basketball player.  Can’t ask for more than that!!  Love it!”  okay folknuts.  This is what you call a LEVINATOR BREAKDOWN.   Ronny boy here has just about tested my patience for these do all say little Jesus nuts who obviously love Matt and all that Matt stands for.  Either that, or they are all members of his close family and friends who are pumping up his fame here with reckless abandon.  Let the boy play.  Let his skills speak for themselves.  Let us fall in love with him too.  Let us pray to Jesus for his safe return to the hardwood.  Let us all say, amen.

  1. ziik- with a Russian accent say: (The infamous shirtmaker, but to our MV- a shirtmakin’ shittalker) – Implores our community to give a little tolerance here.  He hopes Matt enjoys his time here and has great success.  I agree.

  1. Bigfan (not to be confused with that little fan…little man) – Awesomely admits that he hasn’t watched the video yet, BUT all these new names responding were beginning to creep him out!  Lol.  How could you blame him?  You know with T Man and Sharon, Lynn and Rick…what da funk?  Right?  It’s like Jesus took the wheel and drove Matt and his posse to GWU to reunite the Jewniversity.  It’s pretty awesome shit if you ask me my friends.

  1. Longing For Oscar (Not Gamble you Yankee fan Levinator…Oscar from GW silly) – After watching him play the previous day, recommends that Matt better perform an “eorcism on the game ball, the basketball court and his uniform” if he epects to score with regularity.   He jokes that it must have been Collucci who brought him into the program.  Meany! But true.

  1. thinker (I think, therefore I am) – Admits he was ready to scold FC for posting the video but then realized that Matt put this up himself so it’s fair game!  Also, he does have enough insight into the inevitable that he requests herve remove the thread.  Haha.  Levinator always wins! He does point out that many on the site are quick to scorn those whose remarks can be seen as “disrespectful to Jews, or Blacks, Gays, the desirability of having children out of wedlock,” Sarah Palin, etc..  He compares bashing this video to being anti-semitic, homophobic and anti-Palinistic.

  1. Longing For Oscar (AKA LFO) – Disagrees with his dear bids Thinker.  Matt put it up…its fair game!  Biatch!

  1. thinker (where the only thing that doesn’t think is named JK) – reminds LFO that he realized Matt put it up.  But, one should ridicule him for his beliefs.  He contends that many a times, LFO would get defensive over things related to Judaism, Jewish holidays and GW events on certain threads but that thinker always agreed with him sticking up for himself.  Then he contends that this stuff probably shouldn’t be on the board.

  1. L.A. Fan- (Easily get the Best Humor award on the thread. Can’t recap it, so here goes, “Unless they are regular posters using different names, by my count I see 9 or 10 new GW basketball fans in this thread.  So M. Albritton is now more successful at marketing GW basketball than anything that has been attempted by D. Perno or J. Kvancz in the past 6 or 7 years (which is basically nothing).” Wow!

  1. Free Quebec – (our own numbers man…always good to have him as an ally) – asks La Fan, “please tell me your last post was snark”?  The Urban Dictionary’s definition of snark:  Use of sarcasm or malice in speech. Commonly found in the LiveJournal community.

  1. LFO- (Don’t ya know) - Says blah blah blah to thinker.

  1. Thinker (before you speaka) – Wants to be clear with Oscar.  He really agrees with him on everything.  He takes an epected jab on JK calling his decision to schedule fundraising golf tourneys on religious holidays stupid and insensitive.  He really just hates to see the board “condone anti-Christian commentary even if any one of us happens to be Jewish or Athiest or Dootie bubbled.  Does anyone see why Levinator was so enthralled to have this thread hit 30 and up!  Classic ridiculous unnecessary drama!

  1. Florida Colonial (home of the hanging chad and the club Firestone) – Double posts.  One- to thinker.  Tells him to stop taking himself so seriously.  Amen brother.  He is embarrassed by some of the other posters.  It didn’t even occur to him that some posters might take offense to these videos.  By the Way, he was merely looking for you-tube video of our players when he stumbled upon this!  His second post was the revelation that perhaps some of the other posters saw something else in Matt’s video!  Net on GWhoops Hospital.  Scorpio tells Anna and Jack to replay the Albritton video backwards.  It would then reveal the Illuminati’s true identity and the actual location of Hagbard Celine in order to save Anna’s life.

  1. LFO (Lucy in the Fridge with Opium) -- Thanks FC for putting up the video and thinks it’s very entertaining while speaking volumes about our new sharpshooter.  Sharpshooter you say?  Show me a GW highlight film please!

  1. Dootie Bubble (when in double trouble, blow that dootie bubble and don’t forget to wipe!) – Welcome to the game changing moment on the thread folks.  The real dramatic discussion of religion begins here.  DB felt that thinker was directing his previous post to him and some of his previous questionable posts on religion.  He reminds thinker that he doesn’t make fun of people’s gender. Race, or seual preference because we can’t change (without major surgery) these things.  “Believing in magic (whether it be Christian, Jewish, Scientologist, or Copperfield), that can be ecised with nothing but a little logic”!  Wowza!  Kabaam! Shazaam!  Take that Jesus!  Hey Moses…gotcha sucka!  Tom Cruise…biatch!

  1. Heroic 7-J (really? R U from the Motel chain in Boynton Beach, FL) – He reveal that he is new to the board.  No way?  Really?  He defends Matty’s boldness in regards to his faith and opines that if this was Tebow, we would all be singing his praise.  Um really.  Enough of this Tebow guy.  Have you seen his girlfriend’s breasts recently?  Talk about the second coming of G-d!  On the eighth day, G-d gave her…

  1. Porter71 (I ain’t holdin’ a door for you and I ain’t no chopped steak) – The first of many diatribes to bless this thread!  This one, my dear friends, was a beauty!  He goes after those middle aged male GWhoops alum posters who support mocking a college kid and his religious beliefs just because he put it up on the web.  It’s for this reason that he doesn’t check this site very often anymore!  Really/  I thought it was because our team sucked last year and now that our schedule sucks again, why really go out on a limb and hardcore support these boys en route to a fuckin NIT birth baby!  Yeah Levinator!  22 Wins baby! Oops.  Sorry folks, I got off on a tangent there.  Porterhouse goes on to say that he respects DB’s argument the least.  He labels DB as Mr. Logic (nope- the voice of reason is Mentz) and Mr. Intellectual (could be, but there are a few other here who could win that acclaim by vote) and that he’s seen his type before.  Tears down people’s faith so he can feel better about himself.  Actually, all in all pretty strong and dramatic tone here!  Like it!

  1. dootie bubble (where the fart don’t pop) – Directs his Yoda voice to porter71.  “Self righteous much?  Read my comments why don’t you”?  He contends that he never “mocked” Albritton once and that this “religion is off limits” is foolish nonsense.  If ya know DB, you know where this one headed quickly…south!  He reveals that he’s more comfortable in world where people base their beliefs on science and not stories of “old time magic”.  Then he goes on to call porter71 with 100% certainty, a “smug little horse’s ass.”  How you doing?

  1. mailvan (AKA the MV or on the CB… its D-MV) – Here ye, here ye.  Mockers stand down.  Everyone may believe as they wish.  But you Matt, and your crusaders of the GWhoops Jewniverse, beware!  “Don’t attempt to preach or even subtly force your beliefs on anyone else.  When you post a video of this substance, you are dangerously bordering that fine line.”  Don’t make me direct my salad shooting mudslinging anti-AD rhetoric in your line of sight if you know what’s good for yas!  You have been warned!

  1. Cindy (Marsha Marsha Marsha) – Welcome Winner’s Edge Church to our beloved GWhoops hospital.  Please send our regards to Pastor Eddie Trice and big ups to the South Plains Church massive.  We ask, no implore that you read deep into the myriad of thread subjects on this site in order to fully comprehend just eactly what’s in store for you before you make your presence felt more widely.  You WILL be met with sarcasm, humor, bigotry and crude commentary.  And that’s all just about our AD Jacky boy!

  1. Alum1- (AKA Alum one) – He wishes this shit was never posted. He wishes Matt all the best but, he wasn’t brought to GW to, “shine the light for us wayward souls” nor is he a “great athlete”.   However, he appear to be a “bright, talented kid who is entitled to his beliefs” but not at the epense of using this site as a “pulpit” for his supporters to interject faith and belief on those of us who merely wish to talk about BASKETBALL.

  1. porter71 (“Porterhouse, look at the wa buildup on my shoes?  Now get to it…chop chop!”) -  Directs to DB- “I don’t give a damn if you’re right about whether there is a g-d!”  Such dramatic tone!  “Comparing religion to magic was an attempt to insult”.  Um…yep.  Your point?  Oh, you’re calling DB out for not being an adult and acting like a hyprocrite.  He implores DB to show some self-restraint.  Umm...that’s pretty funny.  Looks like porter71 won’t be headed north up the charts on GWhoops board heavies list!

  1. Bobo (Niece she Blows) – DB equates all faiths to simple-minded folks believing in magic.  Then he calls someone else a smug little horse’s ass.  Bob o fails to see the logic in that!  Me too.  Maybe I actually just don’t understand your point!

  1. LFO- (Lucy in the Fryer with Onion Rings) - Reveals that if he hadn’t grown up in a very conservative Jewish family, he’d probably agree with DB a LFO 100%.  But, since he still practices, he can only agree with a LFO 85%.  Either way, he loved Matt’s video as well as Eli Sunday.  He concludes by chiding DB for being such a ghostly character.

  1. steveg202 (offering mid-thread recaps SURE to be recapped by lev later) – Claims nails his 6 Thesis to the Wall after taking a shnizz.  He recaps the inevitable debate.  Matts a Christian, devout and now public about it.  DB thinks religion is akin to magic.  Some don’t even like questioning the authenticity of religion, finding it improper and unfair to do it to a 19yr old.  Nobody he ever met can 100% be certain about the validity of religion.  Perhaps they could be a LFO 100% certain, but not 100%.  Not even Mother Theresa, apparently.   Finally, that all of us really just want Matt to be a decent GW baller.

  1. Bigfan (of what, I have no idea!) – Asks, “Is there really a Winner’s edge Church?”  Yes…bigfan.  There is.  It’s hard to get concrete details but it seems to be a Dallas based project of Pastor Shaw and his lovely wife Veta Johnson.

  1. DAD (Do you really think its Matt’s Dad?) - Perhaps he is.  He prefaces by stating the obvious, that he decided months ago not to respond to the posts on this board.  He must have read the site history!   He then decided to add a bit of commentary without Matt’s consent.  I have summarized it below.  Ironically, dad starts the post off with a phrase you usually here when you talk about a mass-murderer from the mid-west.  “Matt is a very quiet young man.”  He goes on to eplain that Matt has spent most of his life around the world doing missionary work.  He never was on a school team until the 8th grade and never played a season of AAU.  Matt played for 5 different coaches and teams in 5 years.  PAUSE.  So what you’re telling me Daddy is that Matt has never jelled/developed for several years with the same guys around him.  Hmmm.  Dad goes on to contend that despite the negatives, Matt scored 2181 pts with 246 treys.  This got the attention of 27 annoying coaches who would constantly call the Albritton’s in an attempt to convert him to their squads.  Matt believes all of this happened because of G-d, therefore he always wants to divert attention from himself to the Lord.  Matt was apparently shocked to see his video on the board.  Dad, who goes by the name David, finishes his post with some thoughts and prayers for Hobbs and the players and then asks us (those who believe in G-d) to pray for Matty cause he just hurt his hand in practice.

45. bobo (Skee whatin tatin ya ya ya ya) – Replies directly to David Albritton.  He

thanks him for coming on the board to set the record straight.  He credits Matt’s

family for seemingly raising a good kid.  He also makes a good point that unless

Matty plays good D for Hobbs, he likely won’t get the opportunity to drain 3’s all

over the court like we all would like to see.

  1. LFO (Lucy in France with Oysters) – What, Matt’s injured?  Asks Dad, what was the nature of Matt’s hand injury and how sever was it?

  1. Dad  (Are we being punk’d ashton?) – Replies to Lucy that Matt’s at the Dr. now for -rays.  He will get back to the board.

  1. Free Quebec (We don’t need no stinkin’ Frenchies) – Tells David Albritton the most truthful statement thus far on the thread, “Please make sure Matt NEVER reads this board.  Nothing good can come of it for players.”  I’m not too sure what good has come from it for me!  Lol.

  1. notta hater (but a lover) – Asks, “Can we get back to basketball now?”  Really?  It’s 11/11 and our site had seen absolutely no basketball talk for weeks…ecept if you count our schedule.  So, why not let this thread go off?  It’s certainly better than talking about Duke or the press that that school down the street gets from the WaPO!

  1. LFO (Lucy in Florida with Octane) – Thanks Dad in advance for providing an update on Matt’s injury.  He reminds Dad that we’d all like to see him healthy and playing.

  1. Dolphin Michael (Tuna mike on and speak up) – Tuna is somewhat amused by the thread.  And at the 50th post guys- you ought to know why!  Tuna goes on to tell us a story about a good friend of his for 20 years who called him a tuna melt sandwich and threatened to eat Bumble Bee night and day if he didn’t believe in G-d.  He eplained that having a belief in G-d is personal to him and shouldn’t be confused with being an atheist.  Tuna has faith damn it!  Faith in what is and what will be!  His faith is, by “its very nature, it is a simple belief.”  He goes on to commend Matt and his Dad for all their missionary and volunteer work they did and will continue to do.  Further, he states that we all should consider thanking folks who give of themselves for charity and service to humanity just as we do for those who serve in our Armed forces.  He then makes a few edits to the post but we all knew what he meant.

  1. mailvan (delivering debates in the rain, wind, ice or snow) – Questions porter71’s usage of “god dammit” in his post scolding anyone for attacking Matt’s band of religious basketball fans.  I found it quite funny if you ask me.

  1. LFO (Lucy in Fort Bragg with Orange Crush) – Tells Tuna that he connected with much of what he wrote.  He only had one question though.  The question was suggested because LFO didn’t read the corrected post Tuna put up net.  When all is said and done, it appears LFO actually agree with much if not all, of what tuna said.

  1. chrisW (not to be confused with chrisT) – gave a helping hand to Tuna by telling LFO to keep on reading Lucy!  (Levinator aside: G-d I’m getting crazier in my old age).

  1. Long Suffering Fan (LSF on a bad LSD trip) – Argues that, “religion, like politics, does not belong on this board. “  He does admit, however, that the video link does tell us something about the recruit.  He ends with an appeal for the “amen chorus”, who would like to convert us all, to just go away.  Classic!  That’s like telling a Dolphin fan that Ricky doesn’t deserve to play again because he believes in a higher authority!  We all pray to different g-ds guys, some just happen to come rolled up in a blunt and allow for shotgun passes all night long!

  1. Dolphin Michael (Delphinidae, who “resembles g-d”-- to the hebrews) - claims the “best way to have a civil entertaining discussion is to be civil and entertaining, when you discuss something.” Tuna gets a little deep here, so I’ll humor him…’cause I like him.  He directs it to LFO.  He eplains that there is something unique about a chat board that makes people say things that they would never say in person.  Right on Tuna!  It doesn’t hurt that we are an anonymous board at that!  He goes on to suggest that all he is pointing out is that Matty and family have been all around the world.  Do they really care about what some damned middle-aged alums say about their son or his groupiesque gang of “Amen Chorus” peeps, as LSF so delicately puts it? I mean, shouldn’t they of all people be able to put this in perspective?  Tuna goes on here to highlight the very many great outside shooters in our schools’ lore.  He points out that last year, we lacked a true threat.  Where is “Tallents, Magid, Holleran, and on and on….TJ” and “Rogers.”  Matt has a year to learn the system as Noel takes care of trey business this year folks!

  1. Levinator (Recap this bitch!) – I don’t usually recap myself but this post was especially satisfying…so I will.  I said a whole bunch of nonsense to David Albritton about how we have this natural schism between ardent intellects and ardent zealots in this world AND in our little universe.  Both times I had spelled ardent wrong while mildly entertaining myself for a few minutes.  Truth was all I gave a shit about was whether his hand injury was serious.  I did also mention that this board has had religious undertones before that ran through certain threads that I fully deem to be appropriate since they were really about marketing and alumni gathering.  I actually have no problem with this thread.  Christ-all-Matty discourse at GWhoops is just another way of bringing us all together in perfect herve-harmony forever and ever as we continue down the path of terrible OOC’s and completely confusing substitution patterns.

  1. Dootie Bubble (Hey DB, you know me.  I’m the guy from the U who likes to eat Gatorfood biatch!) – Assumingly directs his comment to yours truly.  He thinks the GW golf tournament was magic as well.

  1. LFO (Lucy in the Freezer with O.j. concentrate) – You just knew this was coming!  “Jack thinks he can walk on water.  Does god visit the Smith Center?  And, if he does, would he bother showing up for the OOC game?”  Nice work Oscar.  It only took yea long to twist this thread into to a jab on JK and his mind boggling approach to the advancement/success of GWhoops.  How could there be a g-d?  I pray every day and has he looked at our damn OOC schedule?

  1. porter71 (nah, I prefer blonde ales myself) – directs to Mailvan (the MV) when he states that he didn’t realize he wrote “god dammit” in his emotional diatribe to our board heavies who tread deep within the waters of antidisestablishmentarianism.  I think.

  1. Dad (Hello Mutta, Hello Fartha, we’re not praying at Camp Ramah) – Offers a pivotal moment in this thread’s history.  After revealing that Matt’s injury was just a “badly bruised jammed finger” he then signs off permanently from GWhoops...without once ever being pressured to do so.  One down with porter71 still coming on back for more despite his previous threats.  He loves us way too much to leave forever.

  1. LFO (Lucy in a Ferrari with Opium) – Gives a shout out to David and the Albrittons.  Sounds like a biblical music group playing Caesar’s.

  1. Mailvan (the Enforcer of Postage) – points out, like me I might add, that this thread’s main juice is actually Matt’s apparent hand injury and updates.

  1. Alum1 (because Alum was taken) – Dares ask, “Why do we keep resurrecting this thread?”  He must have known that that question alone would drag us to the Levinator RED ZONE!!  Thus, I actually credit alum1 for allowing me the ability to recap this brilliant thread.  You win the LEVI for “Post most likely to result in the thread reaching the Levinator Red Zone.”  Well done!  Herve will send you your cash and prizes!

  1. Ziik (Hey…buddy…I got shirts ova hea!) – And now the real fun BEGINS.  Ziik takes the bait from alum1 and suggests that the reason why this thread keeps resurrecting is because, “Mailvan, like others, stupidly suggested that Matt ought to limit his self-epression when the young man had not posted anything on this site in the first place.”  Further, “But it looks like some of our educated and otherwise reasonable buddies get all medieval when it comes to religion, and absolutely Palinesque when it comes to self epression.”  “It’s a shame the way Matt was scapegoated here, when he did absolutely nothing.”

Perhaps it’s time during the Recap to take a stroll down memory lane.  For years, this site has been held hostage by the constant battles between the rival tribes; Ziikites and the Mailvanians.  Years of negotiations were lost when the Mailvanians joined forces with the rebel AAU leader LFO to defeat Commander Blue Seats and his terrible band of OOC’s.  King herve had done much to keep the Republic together, but the Salad Shooting Wars deemed to much for his Universe.  BS was banished forever from GWhoops, revolving around the earth in an unbreakable glass enclosed webcell.  Every now and then, the possibility of another Salad Shooting War presents itself.  Now, my friends just might be one of them.  So, let us continue.  As you may recall, I then wrote to Ziik asking him eactly how he arrived at his anti-Mailvan conclusion JUST from reading this thread.

  1. Mailvan (All postal workers, report to battle stations immediately) – Kindly responds to my post, “The reason why Ziik could draw such a conclusion is because he is a total asshole.”  He then goes on to use “asshole” more frequently then any conjunction words.  Truth is, this time Mailvan is a LFO 100% correct!

  1. Tuna then tells us that some of us need a nap followed by DB singing to us Pilot’s, “Magic.”

  1. Longing for Oscar (Rebel AAU leader reporting to duty, sir) – Reveals that he finds Ziik’s post odd, particularly given his “many insensitive, racist and anti-Semitic posts during the past few years.”

  1. Whiteboy (So as to not be considered a Crackerjack) – Now this post is interesting.  He is entertained by the thread and does catch on as an apparent lurker that this kind of shit is eactly what we folks do around here.  He then points out that Matt’s Dad, David, was also a basketball player and was actually a pretty good scorer.  Apparently, G-d blessed David with the ability to score with only 1 eye!  You really can’t make this shit up!  I’m just recapping.

  1. Maryland Fan (go home and clean your turtle shit off you fuckin’ Twerp) MF blesses us with his warm presence.  Then, after reading his post it appears that he’s actually a GW fan from Maryland?  Either way- change your moniker biatch...it’s deliciously misleading.  Anyway, MF sides with the camp that seems just fine with the religion thing so long as we freakin win dammit!

  1. Long Suffering Fan (It’s like a Buffalo Bills fan married a Detroit Tiger Fan and they had a little baby who grew up to be an alumnus of our mighty fine GW) – Astonishingly continues his request for herve to remove the “hottest” thread this side of Purgatory.  He claims THIS thread is really “attracting some creepy participants.”  Nice.

  1. LFO (Lucy in the Factory with Oldsmobiles) – Comments that he thought Matt played fine on 11/19.  He was 0/1 but played with plenty of hustle.

  1. Wall Street (Bailout likely to included money for that NCState game we moved) – Speaks to our great victory against BU.  He agree that Matt played a good game and showed some good D.  The Street also enjoyed Matt’s dunks and pre-game razzle dazzle. He EVEN compares him a little to Stevie Nash.  LMAO.  He call out the future like he’s G-d or something and then claims that Noel should start over because let’s face it, can’t hit from the line.

  1. MOMOF4 (It may have been 8 but G-d tied up my uterus) – Gives us all the history on David Albritton.  David was selected in 1973 to the OCAA for scoring 34.9 pts. per game.  He had lost sight in one eye as a kid in an accident and still managed all this later success.  So, with that Levinator decided to delve deeper into David’s past.  They called him “the one” in college and then one-eyed Davie when ‘The Goonies” first came out.  BTW- if what momof4 is true, that’s pretty AWESOME!

  1. LFO (Lucy in the Fridge with Olive loaf) – LFO directs his comments to MOMO instead of MOM–OF- 4) which was pretty funny!  He asked what the nature of David’s eye accident was.

  1. Family Friend (FF Forever) – replies to LFO, “a stick with a nail in it hit pupil in first grade.  Lost 100% of eye sight.”  No folks this was not a LFO 100%.  FF continues, “Was a great outside shooter with 55 pts. in 1 game.  Went on to become an author of 29 books.  Taught Matt bball while doing Miss work in Africa, Asia etc.”

  1. ChrisW (okay, you can confuse him with chrisT, he doesn’t mind) – Asks a very interesting question.  “Do you know what’s up with Matt’s foot?  He was in a walking cast yesterday [11/26], and as reported here he turned an ankle in practice…Also, and I don’t mean to insult your Jesus loving ass or Matt’s, but is this awesomely amazing future GW basketball star susceptible to injuries?”  Thanks.

  1. FF- (It’s like the SS only better) – Replies to Chris that he “found some info?”  Hmmm.  Found info?  If you’re a family friend, why wouldn’t you just ask?  Anyway, he claims they are separate injuries and will be out 2-4 weeks with an ankle injury.  Then, in a most amazingly bizarre statement claims, “Matt has never missed a game with an injury.  Should dress for MD and play vs. Harvard.”

  1. Tuna Melt, admittedly a huge fan of Recaps, makes an in-thread claim that ChrisW’s posts and responses pushed this thread into the Levinator Red Zone. Little did Tuna know, I had already “devoted” myself to this thread.

  1. ChrisW (the Dubya stands for Witchcraft) – Tells Tuna, “don’t blame me for this train wreck!  Blame the 80 posts before mine!”  Come on boys, why do we have to blame anyone?  Can’t we all just get along?  This is not a train wreck!  It’s a wonderful opportunity to hear from the very many faces that make up our community.  What doesn’t divide us unites us!  This thread proves that no matter how we feel about Jesus, Religion or the GW Jewniverse…we can all unite in the hopes and wishes for a speedy Albritton recovery and some great outside shooting for several years to come.

  1. Tuna Melt tells Christopher that it all counts, man.  Then he wishes to point out, in all solemnity, “That this site is known for its sense of humor as much as anything else.”  So, in that spirit, bring on the damn recap!

  1. Dootie Bubble states that “politics and religion are the best things to argue about.  Don’t think of it as attacking people’s sacred beliefs, think of it as pissing people off as sport.  The former suggests there are some absolute truths whereas the latter recognizes bullshit as king.”  Classic lines DB.  You have represented your side well and with an impressive arsenal of sharp wit to boot.  You may disagree with good ole DB and g-d only knows how much yours truly says Amen to that…but he sure does know how to epress himself anonymously.  It’s a talent.

ALERT…ALERT… POST OF THE THREAD AWARD…and the LEVI goes to…

  1. Dolphin Michael (Put down that Sushi roll and clap for me) – Tuna blesses us with a wonderful benediction to short for me to ever copy, but too long for me to ever rewrite for you.  I ask you all to give another look-see to his award winning post and to all of the other winners as well.  Okay, a little recap.  He asks the lord to bless our community, GWU, our multi religions and even Notre dame football fans.  Oh wait, he then skipped them.  He asks the lord to bless us with the understanding of Hobb’s substitution patterns (yea right…not even g-d), the wisdom of Solomon or Feinstein to help eplain or OOC each year, he asks the lord to bless me and I second that my dear lord, for I will not speak your voice or walk within your shadows but do listen to Tuna and bless me.  I’ll even put blood on my lampposts dear lord.  Most importantly, tuna asks the lord to bless us all with a 22 win season so that Lev can collect on his most improbable and awesome bet with GWAA for NIT tickets. Amen.

  1. Alumnus (the man, the myth, the alumnus) – “May God bless and keep the Tsar – far away from us!  Then he put Fiddler in quotes because he probably thought that with such a large amount of gentiles on this thread, many probably wouldn’t know that it came from a Jew movie.  Classic.

  1. Family Friend- responds to Levinator’s final call for thought and prayer.  He states that, “Matt’s passionate about Christ but does not consider himself religious.  Matt is simply a follower of Christ.”  WHAT?  I really can’t make this shit up guys.  FF goes on to eplain all the awesome miracles that Jesus bestowed upon Matt’s family.  His grandfather…SAVED.  His mother…SAVED!   FF contends that “Matt is an ordained minister and plans to play pro ball overseas where he has already drawn interest.”   WHAT?  Then how the hell can Matt not consider himself religious?  Ordained ministers are not religious?  This is silly if you ask me.  It really does bode well if FF and DB got into a one-on-one salad fest.

  1. LFO (Lucy in the Fish tank with Oyster bait) – Seemingly mocks FF and his truly wild biblical interpretation of the Albritton’s family history.  Could you imagine if there is a Book of Albritton at the Winner’s edge?  That would be something.  Anyhoo, LFO tells the story of his uncle’s anal fissures and how he was in so much pain that he devoted himself completely to g-d. G-d healed his uncle so completely that, “the fissures never opened again, even when he passed stools that were almost as hard as rocks.”  Now this story I believe!!!!

  1. Dootie Bubble replies for us all, “Sweet Jesus LFO!”

  1. The MV – (to be confused with Mailvan) – directs his comments to FF.  It only took 100 posts or so for DMV to run his Van over a new found friendly.  FF’s last comment seemed over the top enough that I was certain DMV or DB would have a field day.  Boy was I right.  DMV questions FF’s sincerity after repeatedly making relatively outlandish statements about Matty boy’s bball prowess.  He points out the injuries, the apparent lack of athleticism against Div 1 opponents, his passing skills etc.  He then offers some typical Mailvanian advice: What I do see is you and other portraying his game as something its not.  Which in the end, does Matt a disservice.”  His unsolicited advice to FF, if you truly want to support Matty, cheer for him and the team, but stop making his game out to be something that it’s not.  Lucy, the rebel forces have been defeated!  FF, I can feel your anger.

  1. FF- (oh no you don’t Mailman) – Replies, “Matt has a lot of people who have seen him play and feel strongly that”  Matt’s…the greatest ever…definitely NBA first round…friends in 46 states (we don’t like NY, NJ, Conn and Mass)…Jesus is very real…God heals, saves and delivers...thank you LFO for your wonderful testimony…Josh Hamilton…8 rehabs then became a born again…Jesus is and always will be the answer…regarding injures…Matt never missed a game until Auburn and daddy says he’s playing this week…Jesus bleed the buff and blue…amen.

  1. New visitor (They come in droves) – Points out the obvious…Religion Sells baby!!!

  1. njspride (A man who actually knows that GW has ladies hoops) – Ask Lev to “have mercy on us.”  Yeah right!

  1. Mailvan (Reloaded and ready to Post) - Nails his 4 theses on FF’s wall: We all love LFO, he has seen Matt play at it was not up to par, If it’s FF’s goal to make Matt one of the most criticized and ostracized players in GW history then keep it up and to stop pushing Jesus’s name on this college board.  Take that Luther!

  1. LSF (Tribal leader of the Ziikites) – Attempts to be sarcastic when he blasts back at Mailvan with, “Judaism rocks.  Jews are the best.  All other religions suck.  Go Jews!  Anyone who really knows LSF can read through this post.  The Great thread Schism is upon us!  This can lead to hundreds more posts and tons more sects!  LSF scapegoats the Jews because lets face it, Mailvan is all but one Jew and clearly speaks for us all!  Somehow, Mailvan suggesting that Jesus not be pushed on the board actually meant that Jews want Moses pushed instead.  It’s with that logic that I’m certain I’d never hire LSF to do any attorney work.  You actually appear to be a bigot and so this type of thread is difficult for you!  You can’t hide deep within that sarcasm my friend.  Old age just may have caught up!

  1. CJS- Fan- (The bigot of all board bigots) – blah blah blah about how he has now changed and LSF was right when he called for herve to remove the thread.  He admits though that his persona as board bigot was “ruinous to herve’s board.” He, “finally got it” so he doesn’t “post vitriolic, ad hominom attacks anymore.”  Well that’s a relief.  You see CJS- I don’t see where anyone else has been bigoted in their views on this thread?  The difficulties you have had controlling your bigoted thoughts and epressions to our online community does not reside in too many others here.  So, although I certainly appreciate you changing your old ways, it really isn’t a cause or reason for this thread to be removed.  Bigoted comments do.  What you and LSF have wrong is that Jews and Christians can unite here because they both believe in a higher authority.  Sandy koufa and Shawn green are ecellent eamples of Jews who have ecelled in sport but always remained religious throughout.  Good try on causing a schism between the Judeo-Christian collective here for your own agenda though.

  1. alum1 (cause alumnus was already taken) – agrees with Mailvan regarding advice to FF and others about building up Matt’s play to unattainable heights.  This site wont be pretty if it continues and Matty doesn’t hold up.  If that does happen, think about the DB comments about G-d then!

  1. ChrisW- makes an interesting final point that that actual video he saw was not about Christ redeeming but about Matt shopping with some female friends.  Levinator is looking into that…

  1. LFO- (Lucy) Agrees with Levinator that he doesn’t see a train wreck here.  Then he goes off and possibly start one by doing eactly what I told CJS-Fan hadn’t happened.  The Great schism!  When the new Jews turn on old Jews!

  1. LSF- Direct quote here folks since it’s too delicious to recap, “I swear their ain’t no heaven and I pray there ain’t no hell, If there was, Oscar, you and MV would go straight there for the way you treat my buddy Ziik.

  1. DB – asks, “Are we all talking about the same Jesus?” Apparently not DB.

  1. LFO – Shoots back at LSF, “if you want to be buddies with a dishonest, racist, anti-semite, be my guest.  And, if you’ve accepted Jesus as your savior I guess you get a free ticket to heaven too.”  Just when I thought 2000 years of wars and salad shooting would end in our happy little community…along comes the band of board heavy misfits ready to take aim at one another and fight a fight that was never fought on this thread before them!  Ain’t that the damn truth!

  1. Herve (our King, lord and savior) – Just reminds us all that he’s here, above the clouds and omnipresent for all to obey!

  1. LSF defends Ziik yet again calling him a “good and decent man whom I’m proud to call a friend, just as I suspect I would find you to be also should we ever meet.

  1. LFO- Replies, “I’ll be seeing them net Friday in philly.”

In conclusion, this thread actually proved to be quite “awesome.”  We heard from many new fans that are sure to continue popping up for the months to come.  Hopefully some even come with last names and the ability to learn from this thread!

GWhoops.com is above us all.  We are just mere pawns on this board and herve is our fearless leader.  I pray unto him like yesterday, when the server went down and I was working on this recap.  Herve heard my prayers and delivered.  So, to the “Amen Jesus” gang, I hear you.  I’m actually relatively religious and do understand in my own personal way, g-d importance to all his children.  However, G-d doesn’t just get pushed around on a brand new universe foreign to many of you and stranger than fiction.  We are a delicate group of rabid GW fans, devote to our team and to each other.  We are a community, not I.  We are not above this board so are own belief in G-d doesn’t come before the collective.  The collective voted in herve.

To MV, LFO and all other Jews on this board: you were doing so well up until the very end.  This isn’t a debate nor should it ever be, about Christ versus Moses, our community is beyond that.  The issue of religion is not something that should divide us, but rather, unite us.  Unite us against dogmatic posters.  It’s not fair game on this site.  IMHO.  This isn’t a forum to sell or espouse personal ideals.  However, at times, religion does play a role and its all in good fun.  Our “new friends” seem to enjoy the banter with Mailvan and DB initially.  It actually seemed to get very juicy once the board heavies went at it.  Nothing new here!

Well LSF- you probably got your wish.  With the Recap all but over, this thread will probably sink into oblivion, quickly replaced by a new one regarding Basketball and just maybe, religion.

Good night all. And to all…a good night!

-Lev

As always, well done on the recaps, Lev.  However, to clarify the record  (1) my sarcsm was aimed at "Family Friend" and all of the other religious interlopers and not at Mailvan and (2) if anyone needs to get a life more than myself, perhaps it is you.  And I will stand by my statement that "Jews Rock!"  Now I will go roll me one, crank up "Sympathy for the Devil" and try to help organize a moratorim against the war.   (Oh, sorry, for a moment I thought I was back in Calhoun Hall, circa 1970).  I guess I will begin my 11 hour work day instead.

As a proud Alumnus of Marquis de Lafayette Hall (I mean... Adams Hall... er... Calhoun Hall?) I resent your mischaracterization of GW's oldest (and most identity crisis-ridden) residence hall (I mean... dorm).

I should tell my old Community Facilitator, or are they House Proctors now?

Great recap Lev....but I stand by my comment...it's a train wreck...a train wreck I tell ya!  And if you check out the mall video, bring a pillow!

Levinator, I applaud the effort.  As well as the Scorpio reference.  Talk about your GW memories.  I'll also agree that LA Fan's post was clearly the funniest on this thread.

I was a little baffled by your conclusion.  For starters, I agree with LSF that his Judaism post was by no means directed at me and was only intended to be amusing.  This whole sermon on Judao-Christian beliefs living in unison was a bit lost on me.  It's really very simple...I don't believe this is the correct or appropriate forum to espouse any religious beliefs unless you are proving a specific point (like why you don't throw a golf fundraiser on the Jewish New Year).  This is quite a bit different than grandstanding the virtues of Judaism and trying to get non-Jews to convert, which would be every bit as inappropriate.

Last point: LSF, I don't want to make a huge deal over this.  Let me just say that if you think the problem is the way I have treated Ziik and not the other way around, you have not been paying attention.  His post on this thread, featuring his misguided attempt to place blame on me, is just another eample within a long list of his spiteful posts.

Just to throw a little random irrelevant data in there - The MV: Judaism doesn't emphasize conversation as do most other religions.  The theory, more so in the more conservative versions, is that you are born Jewish and since just can't change your birth mother you can't convert.  Recently in Israel there has been a ton of controversy over a judicial ruling that invalidated about 50,000 conversions.

To Blackbury--your statement is unChristian and unBiblical.  Evidently you don't read or follow the Bible.  Living in a garage doesn't make you a car, neither does going to church make you a Christian.  You're just as lost in your sin as an athiest.  Jesus said that true followers must take up their cross and follow Him.  To mock a young man who truly loves the Lord and the video that shows the Crucifiion and Resurrection is blasphemy.  I respect a Jewish man more who at least shows respect to the Bible.  Emotion is part of the Christian life.  People who realize what Christ has done feel an overwhelming since of gratitude.

One of the problems we have today is that people view Christianity as a religion.  True Bible Christiananity teaches a relationship with God through Christ.  Many people go to church but have never had a Born Again eperience.  Jesus said that unless a man is Born Again he will not see the Kingdom of God (John 3:3)  The Born Again eperience includes repenting of your sin and then inviting Christ to live in your heart.  At that point you become a new person.  2  Cor 5:17 says "old things pass away and all things have become new"

When a person is saved they immediately eperience peace and joy, along with an incredible sense of freedom.  They come to know freedom from sin and the love and grace of Christ.  This great salvation is available to all who call upon the name of the Lord.  Romans 6:23 says"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ.  That in the ages to come He might shew the eceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.  For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves:  it is a gift of God.  Not of works lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:5-9)

In other words, our goodness or righteousness won't get us to Heaven.  Only through the righteousness of Christ can we be saved.  The great apostle Paul was a very religious man who thought the killing of Christians was God's will.  However, on the road to Damascas, Jesus appeared unto him and Paul had a Born Again eperience and wrote most of the New Testament.  In Romans 10:1-4 Paul writes, "

"Brethren, my hearts desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.  For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God but not according to knowledge.  For they being ignorant of God's righteousness,  and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto  the righteousness of God.  For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth"

To my dear Jewish friends.  Those who follow the teachings of Moses must refrain from swearing.  Yet this board is filled with cuss words and the blaspheme of God's name.  According to the Old Testament you would miss Heaven for swearing and taking the Name of God Jehovah in vain.  Also, adultery, fornication, lieing etc... would keep you out of Heaven.

The Bible says "that our righteousness is filthy rags to God" (Isaiah 64:6)  That's why we need Jesus to be our attorney or advocate in Heaven.  Jesus will plead our case to the Father.  I John 1:8-9 says"  If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness"  Two verses later it says " "if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous, and He is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.  And hereby we do know Him, if we keep His commandments.  He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." (1 John 2:1-4).

George Washington said" Let the world, oh Lord, be filled with the knowledge of thee and thy Son, Jesus Christ.  Wash away my sins in the immaculate blood of the Lamb and purge my heart by the Holy Spirit.  Daily frame me to be more and more into the likeness of the Son Jesus Christ" (Hours in Prayer).

The first President of Princeton, the Rev. John Witherspoon wrote " Cursed be all learning that is contrary to the Cross of Christ"  Of the first 108 Universities, 106 were Christian  In 1636, the rules and precepts of Harvard read " Let every student be plainly instructed, and earnestly pressed consider well, the main end of his life and studies is to know God and Jesus Christ which is eternal life, John 17:3, and therefore to lay Christ in the bottom as the only foundation of all sound knowledge and learning." In 1701, Yale College priniciples read, " Our university was founded to propogate in the wilderness the blessed reformed, Protestant religion, with a goal that every student shall consider the main end of his study to wit to know God and Jesus Christ and answerably to lead a Godly, sober life. "

Patrick Henry made it clear, "It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great country was founded not by religionists, but by Christians, not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason, people of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity and freedom to worship here."

America is at a cross road.  We're facing many dangers at home and abroad.  It's time to seek God.  Life is short.  It's appointed unto man once to die and after this the Judgment.

I know that many of you will attack me and this post, but if just one of you turns to Christ it will be worth it all. God Loves each one of you and has a great plan for your life.  Merry Christmas!

I've read the Bible a few times and I wholeheartedly agree with Insight.  If you want to be a good Christian you've got to wear your religion on your sleeve and have a duty to convert all those who don't accept Jesus as God's messiah and only son.  Church isn't enough.  You've got to act crazy for Jesus in public as well.

On the topic of negative comments by atheists and Jews about Christianity, shouldn't ya'll be eating it up with a spoon?  Criticism becomes persecution because every Christian wants to be a martyr for their Lord, no?  WIthout Judas and the Romans, or whatever other naysayers are transformed into pure evil to avoid nuance or argument,  Jesus might have lived to the ripe old age of 45 and made some babies with Mary Magdalen.  That would have been seriously bad news for the movement.

Just wondering why you took the time for your sermon, Insight.  Are you seeking converts.  As a non Christian, to I have to accept Jesus (or at least Jerry Falwell)  or be doomed for all of eternity,   I think I have lived a pretty upright life.  Can' I get into your heaven?    Is my not accepting Jesus a deal breaker?  You are not going to convert any of us heathens.  On the other hand, you offend the vast majority of us who are here to talk basketball (a siginificant number of us being of a different religion) by trying to cram your religious beliefs down our throat and, as  a result,  you come off looking like a religious buffoon.  You want to talk GW basketball?  Welcome.   You want to convert Ge**getown or Maryland fans to GW basketball, go for it.  Otherwise, please just pack up your bible and leave.  Go to the Liberty College or Brigham Young boards.

A train wreck I tell ya!

When Ronald Reagan passed away, he found himself at the pearly gates with Saint Peter.

"Hi Saint Peter.  I've finally made it, and my head is clear again.  I remember everything," Ron said.

"Of course Ronald.  No more Altzheimer's.  You've got all your memories back," Saint Peter told him.  "Come on, I'll take you for a tour."

"Great," Ron said as he followed Saint Peter through the gates into Heaven.

The two walked effortlessly up a cloud and onto a flat and bright space.  The two stopped for a moment, and looked at all the people.

"Goodness" Ron raved, "It's wonderful.  There are Arabs, and Indians - both Asian and American!  There are Israelis and Hippies.  Black and white and red and yellow and everything in between.  Ghandi and Buddah and there's Jesus!"

"Well, it seems as if you like your new home."  Saint Peter said with a smile.

"How could I not?" Ron said, and then a questioning look came over his face.

"What's the matter Ronald?" Saint Peter asked.

"What's that wall for?"  Ron asked as he pointed towards a wall at the edge of the space.  "Who's on the other side of the wall?"

"Oh that's where we put the Catholics.  They like to think that they're the only ones here." Saint Peter eplained.

With apologies to the Catholics on the board.  Maybe something for others to think about.

To Matt,

Isaiah 51:7-8

"Listen to me, you who know righteousness,
You people in whose heart is my law:
Do not fear the reproach of men,
Nor be afraid of their insults.
For the moth will eat them up like a garment,
And the worm will eat them like wool;
But my righteousness will be forever,
And my salvation from generation to generation."

To others,

Isaiah 66:24

"They shall go forth and look upon the corpses of the men who have transgressed against me.
For their worm does not die, and their fire is not quenched. They shall be an abhorrence to all flesh."

“One day, some kid is going to be thinking about going to GW.  A potential basketball recruit, perhaps.  He or she will read this thread, and shaking their head, cross GW off their list, and wonder what the f*ck is wrong with those people in Foggy Bottom.”

Somebody with the class of Dennis Rodman may turn us down, but he may choose to come just for the likes of uptown

after 2 am on a summer night- or maybe Rasheed Wallace.  If we went with football we could be missing out on somebody like Plaico Burress or somebody with moral qualities like the “Juice”- What were we thinking.  How about Michael Vick or his brother Marcus.  Maybe they could transfer to Lorton and get work release on Saturdays for the game.  These are the caliber of players we should be shooting for-  (I guess “shooting” was a poor choice of words).  But god forbid one of these Jesus guys slips in.  that could ruin our reputation big time.

Let’s get rid of all this religion on your sleeve business, after all who in the world would want a David Robinson on our team, or a lisa leslie on the women’s team.  Good thing we don’t do football or they would probably be after the likes of somebody like Reggie White, Sean Aleander or Roger Stauback.  Everyone knows how much trouble those guys were.

Don’t worry, I think everyone knows were safe.  Just listen to the huddle at a time out in the game and everyone knows GW is high on se education and Biblical terminology.  don’t worry, NJSPRIDE, i doubt we will attract to many matts to ruin our rep.  If that's not enough we could replace "Hail to the Buff and Blue" with "Bad Boys, Bad boys, Watcha gonna do."

You know Timeout?  I think your characterization of my thread is a load of horseshit.

This is a message board meant for basketball, and, to be frank, I don't understand why so many regular posters on the board have elected to turn this into an assault on religion, on Matt Albritton's family, and his supporters.  I don't know why those supporters, or those members of the board disagreeing with everyone else's waing poetic, have decided to dignify these arguments with a response.  I have to commend people like Poog who have been conspicuously absent from this thread.

I'd rather talk about the matchup zone GW has been running more effectively than in the past, or about the upcoming Maryland game (the biggest game of the year, mind you).  The BB&T Classic is tomorrow night, you know.

What I meant before, and will say more eplicitly now, is that so often, folks on this board like to this play this game of resenting others, arguing over non GW Basketball related things, etc.  And when they do, and a potential recruit types in "gw colonials basketball" and sees "GWHOOPS.com - the Most Comprehensive Site for Colonials Basketball" comes up fourth on their google search, they'll click it.  And, instead of seeing discussions of players on the court, or recruiting or coaching, they will see a 154-post thread mocking, justifying, arguing over, and biching about videos about Jesus made by a freshman who's only played in 2 or 3 games.

You think ANYONE would want to go to a school with THAT kind of campus "support"?   Because if you do, then I know for a fact that you're believing in the wrong things.

We are GW fans and we really care about GW hoops.  We have only tried to defend attacks upon Matt and his Christian faith.  We wish all the players and coaches the very best as well as those on this board.  It is true that Matt has a lot of fans throughout  America who are now GW fans.  Like everyone else they enjoy this board minus the language.  If Tebow's faith would of been attacked like Matt's he would of stood up for his faith.  Today after Florida's win, Tebow thanked his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  Tebow even started his own church on campus to convert people to Christ.  Would Tebow of been treated the same way?  Or is it because Matt is not a star (yet) that he and his faith gets blasted.  Whatever the reasons, I'm sure Matt's fans feel unwelcome and will probably one by one leave this post.  Someday you will come to realize that we all will die and face a holy God.  I hope you will be ready.  Regardless of what you may think, God really does love you and He desires to reveal Himself to you.

I really like what Tebow did on the field.  Having spent some time at UF I know people who know Tebow and saw him around campus several times and by all accounts he's a stand up guy.  I also grow weary of his proselytizing and think his religious beliefs are in good hands funny and in the wrong hands scary.

Why can't people critique a religion without being accused of personally attacking someone?  If Tebow and Allbritton really believe in their God then they think I'm going to a warm afterlife.  I take no offense and don't take it personally.  I think they believe in magic.  Doesn't necessarily make them bad people, just naive in my book.

The disjuncture comes because I view religion as an opinion, which is negotiable and can be discussed, while some view it as an essential part of themselves that needs to be defended at all costs.  To make a long story short, I try to convince people that empirical observations should guide their behavior and it's fine for people to try and convince me that some guy named Jesus cares if I have a beer on Friday night.  We'll just have to see who's more hard-headed.

Dootie, that was really well said.  You absolutely have the right to encourage and desire others to share your world view. Having a well thought out and soundly derived thesis is especially helpful in this.  Part of the issue here in this thread is a disconnect between the perception of Faith based on stereotype and misinformation derived from life eperience and ironically some posters here, versus a complete and robust understanding of the said Faith from credible and trusted sources.  One's best friend offering their beliefs holds far more weight than a detached and impersonal post.

It's a little bit like taking the messenger as equal to the message.  Undoutedly we've all taken some bad advice from a good person because we trusted the person as equal to the message.  But sometimes the reverse happens when we decide a message is bad or false because we don't trust or dislike the messenger.  When this happens it becomes etremely difficult to eamine the message objectively because our opinion is clouded by our distaste for the messenger.

This distaste for the messenger  is what breeds reliance on stereotypes and misinformation about the actual message.  So to use your eample Dootie (please pardon the modest assumptions and I fully acknowledge your tongue in cheek)  that Jesus cares about you having a beer.  If I had to guess you've probably heard or been told that Christians shouldn't drink and is considered a sin.  This idea could have come from many messengers and from it you have drawn a perfectly reasonable conclusion:  I like to drink a beer, Jesus does not approve of this therefore I'm not going to consider Christianity.   Again, I find this perfectly reasonable.

But if I told you that Jesus does not think this at all, in fact his first miracle was creating alcohol, maybe that changes things a little.  Not totally of course but slightly helpful.  It is interesting because Jesus drank wine he just didn't get drunk.  So it's not having a beer that is at issue rather drunkeness.  Why?  Well, we've all been drunk and had "good" times but no doubt a lot of bad has come from it as well.  It makes a lot of sense, if you're willing to admit it.

That may sound all well and good but you know nothing about me.  It's just an impersonal eplanation.  Well, I was a guy who went out 4 nights a week at GW (and a time after) Traveling the streets of Adams Morgan, Midtown and G*****town.  I imbibed a lifetimes worth of shots and beers but I did have an unsettling feeling about it all.  Then I came to this verse from Bible that asked "What benefit did you reap at that time of things you are now ashamed of?"  Tough question, again if you're willing to be honest.  So what benefit did I reap of all my drunken nights? Not much.  It was tough to admit after all that time and energy.  Bigger stuff came out like having my hope and identity in those things too.  And I don't mean to get all deep on us just a bit of honesty.

Today I love having a beer.  And that's OK.  But life changed when I stopped focusing on the messenger and took a look at what the message had to say.  Here's to hoping we're all willing to do that!

"I give you my revised list of the two commandments: Thou shalt always be honest and faithful to the provider of thy nookie and Thou shalt try real hard not to kill anyone, unless of course they pray to a different invisible man than you.  Two is all you need; Moses could have carried them down the hill in his fuckin' pocket.  Then I wouldn't mind those folks in Alabama posting them on the courthouse wall, as long as they provided one additional commandment: Thou shalt keep thy religion to thyself." - George Carlin

George Carlin, now there's a good role model.  Let's see, admitted drug user, drunkard, liar etc... Great guy to get advice from.  If he could return from his warm habitation,  I'm sure his attitude would be different.

OK, I've truly stayed out of this one for most of the thread.  I realize that religion is a very personal issue and a very serious issue to some.  I am always open to free echanges of ideas, do not ever try to "convert" individuals towards my religion, and am offended if and when others try this same tactic on me.  I fully realize that Matt did not post this video on GWHoops.com but the fact that it was posted anywhere and subsequently discovered by FC and brought here makes it fair game for discussion in my book.

As some of you have alluded, this is such a heated topic that there is likely to be a breaking point and I have now reached mine.  I am hopeful that I will only have to say this one time....Do not ever, EVER, speak badly of George Carlin.  Thank you.

MV, I am sorry to tell you this, but I saw Carlin at the Warner Theater about 2 years ago and he sucked.  Prior to seeing him there, I had seen him in Vegas, in Chicago, and in NYC.  Each time I saw him perform he had me in tears he was so funny.  Sadly, he show at the Warner was horrible.  He was unfamiliar with his material and he was unable to maintain any focus.  I loved Carlin's perspective and don't think there will ever be anyone like him again...lots of copycats, but nobody even close to his mind, when it was firing on all cylinders...

Carlin was one of my all time favorites.  Regretably, I believe he began to decline after his heart attack caused him to quit drugs.   The last couple of times I saw him, while I still enjoyed the show,  he seemed to become more mean spirted in his old age.  The HBO specials from the 60s, 70s and 80s are hilarious, however.

I used to work with and am friends with one of Carlin's cousins.  He wasn't really close to him but said that in person he was incredibly gentle, kind, and soft spoken -- his on stage rage/anger was just that - on stage.

I believe that George Carlin once played a concert at the Smith Center right after a basketball game in the early 90s.

Part of the short-lived "third-half" series.

FQ-- I remember Howie Mandel doing a post-game "comedy" performance in the early 90's. For all you youngsters out that, that era was so lame college students thought Mandel was really funny and hip. (and hopefully now this thread can die the death it so urgently needs).

Yeah, I think those were the two. Carlin one year, Howie Mandel another.  There might have been a concert one time, too.

Go Christ!

Amen Chris! Lev deserves to be forced to dine only at early bird specials for a month for making that crack.

Not that I much care as nowadays the Niners' seasons for me go like this:

Weeks 1-3: Wear good karma game jersey, sip chardonnay during the game, make a great buffet of snacks for watching, invite friends over

Weeks 4-6: Wear jersey, chug beer, eat cheap pretzels, no one will come over

Weeks 7-10: Maybe wear jersey, down copious amounts of cheap hard booze. Neighbors complain about yelling of Carlin-esque words.

Weeks 11-14: Watch other games if they are more interesting, paying more attention to college games to see if there are some players the team should pick up in the draft for net season

Weeks 14-17: Hard to stay inside watching this crud when the weather outside is so nice.

Playoff:  sip chardonnay during the game, make a great buffet of snacks for watching, invite friends over, rela knowing no matter the game the Niners will be on the clock very early come draft day.

That's better than me GWAA...since I'm back on the least coast again, my season goes like this:

Baseball Playoffs

World Series

Surprise that football is still a professional sport.

A Monday night 49ers disappointment or a Thursday night 49er disappointment.

Eye strain from watching the little boes in the corner of my TV to see the score of the 49ers games (yeah, usually a disappointment there too!)

Football playoffs:  A team I hate versus a team that I dislike.

Superbowl:  Two teams I hate.

Unfortunately in between there I have Colonials basketball.  Geez, where's Kevorkian when you need him!

Just came on the board and discovered that LFO prayed a nice prayer for my friend Matt.  I'm sure Matt and his family appreciate the thoughtfulness.  Matt's ankle was still hurting so we were all thankful that he played and made a small contribution.

Go GW and Merry Christmas!  Regardless of your religion, faith or the lack thereof, I hope you have a wonderful holiday.  And whoever knocked Matt or supported him, thankyou for making life a little more interesting.  I hope someday  each of you will discover the love and peace of Christ, but if you don't, America gives you the right to believe any way you choose.  As an American and as a Christian, I would fight for each of you to always have the freedom to be and to say those things that you feel in your heart.

Family Friend,
I attended the game against Harvard and I must say that Matt looks like Jesus Christ and plays like Michael Jordan.  It's remarkable to me that GWU was able to convince Matt to come here because his game looks better suited to a team like UNC or Teas.  It's very clear to me that your prayers have been answered because he's incredible and his presence on the team will add a spirituality that will fill the Smith Center.

When will herve get the balls to shut down this thread?

I guess only accusations from Blue Seats that herve made up the whole split personality phenomena can get anything taken down around here.  Clearly people on this board are crossing the line and one can only see this as being an uncomfortable discussion for the freshman Tean recruit with a sweet jump shot.

Danny boy replies, "I have nothing to contribute to this thread other than my sincere prayers that this thread can truly make Lev's christmas and and enable him to perform a double recap'

It will truly be my honor, to perform the first ever double Levinator Recap  for all to enjoy.  as I write this 200th post, I want to thank all of you for continued to be respectful regardless of your opinion and mindful that Matt's family and friends are reading this thread and do deserve our respect.  Religion is not all that we are.  For many, it is much of them.  For some, it is nothing at all.  We, as a community, must face these challenges and respectfully opine rather than censor as a vocal minority has suggested.

For most who know me, i usually have to say when i'm being serious!  Now is that time.  i ask all of you, our board heavies and our "new supporters" and all in between:  Pray for my grandmother who was so strong and so brave.  She passed on today at 6:26pm, to ascend toward the heavens to watch over her family.  G-d, please guide her back to us and show mercy on my family who has lost three of your children this past month.   I don't care who you are g-d, I don't care if it was actually Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, Sabbeti Zevi, or Dootie bubble as your second coming:  we are all your children and all deserve your love if we follow your tenets and try our best to be good people.  amen.
