Probably is cost cutting, but if you want  to engage in fun speculation , i wouldn't feel too good if i were a northern school. 

seriously though, not sure it matters. the big east's hq is in providence of all places.  but at least there's a member school in the city for godssake.

Considering that avier, Dayton and St. Louis have all been welcomed to the Atlantic 10, at least headquarters will now be practically literally on the Atlantic.

A story on Philly.com said that an the A-10's lease was up and that the new location is much less epensive.  Another article said that another city in contention for the league's new HQ's was Washington.  One quote I thought interesting was the following:

"The A10's highest-profile sport is men's basketball, with avier, Temple and George Washington having been ranked in recent seasons. The Colonial Athletic Association took over the A10's football program in the 2007 season."

It certainly has been awhile since we were mentioned with these schools -- hopefully a sign to come.

Having read the press release (thank you, Hooper), all I can say is "what a crock of shit".

The Newport News/Hampton Roads area is OUTSIDE of the A10 geographic footprint.  This area is part of the Norfolk market, which is a separate market than Richmond.  Separate television and radio stations, separate newspapers, etc.  Would anyone consider Raleigh, NC or Indianapolis, IN to be part of the A10's footprint?  This is no different.

For what it's worth, City Center at Oyster Point in Newport News is a brand new office/retail/condo development and a gorgious comple.  Been there several times (and going again net week) for business.  The quality of life for the A10 employees improves significantly.

There are 3 D1 college programs in the area: ODU, Hampton and Norfolk State (William and Mary is not really part of that area).  Of those choices, adding ODU would be a coup.  Strong regional presence, decent facilities and a program that averages about 6500 fans/game.  A jump to the A10 to play Charlotte, Richmond, GW, U, SLU and the others would help elevate their progrmas as well. 

Now if we could just convince Fordham to get the hell out....

 Good point about the Hampton Coliseum, Chris.  9,777 for basketball.  Norfolk has ODU's basketball stadium that seats 8,600 or the Nofolk Scope at 10,000 for basketball.  I wouldn't have the A10 Tournament there unless ODU was already signed up but it could be a good alternative to A.C. down the road. Lots of cheap flights to Nofolk via Southwest.

The Tidewater area (Newport News, Hampton, Nofolk, VA Beach) has a population base of about 1.5m with lots of entertainment options.  It could be a great location to host a tournament if A.C. doesn't work out.
