...........and Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy. Please stop. Do we really want to be connected to that corrupt university? We are better than that!!
I have a hard time believing that UConn would hire Hobbs for such a large national program. By the time Calhoun retires, Hobbs will be a few years from his last coaching gig and the final years of that gig weren't great. I'd imagine they'd go after a national name.
You guys do realize this thread was originally created over a decade ago?
Former GW coaches have gone on to bigger and better things. My estimation of Hobbs is that he is just as good as his assistants. He may do well at UCONN.
The Big Least.
As someone who goes to GW from CT and roots for UConn, that is not true. If there is a coach in waiting, it's Kevin Ollie not Karl Hobbes
The Kevin Ollie thing is message board speculation not fact. My guess is if they had to choose between Hobbs and Ollie right now Hobbs would get the nod as he has proven he can win at the D1 level and Ollie has no experience.
This would be a good thread to discuss whether how our incoming recruting class of Carl Elliot, Ricky Lucas, and JR Pinnock will do? I'm looking foward to them. I heard Elliot is a real Jason Kidd-style point guard.
None of this will happen. When Calhoun finally does pass away, the university will just grant him an extended leave of absense.
This might be my new favorite thread. And I'd have to say I'm most excited about Ricky Lucas.
I think it comes down to whether Pops, Hall, Omar and the other new recruits pan out. If they do I could see Hobbs getting an offer down road in 2009 or so.
I'm just not buying the hype about Lucas. We heard all about how Omar was going to Magic Johnson--and while he's good, he's certainly no Magic.
In 10 years I'm sure we'll all be discussing the bust of Lucas--I'll be here to say I told ya so.
FQ-- the knock on Elliot is he can't win games. However, I'd still like to see him take a long-range runner at the buzzer in Dayton, could be interesting...
I heard some of these kids are products of diploma mills? Oh well, should the story even register on WAPO's radar it should blow over rather quickly. Besides, GW is a private school and can admit whoever they want.
My bet is Daniel Soares really blows-up this next season. MARK MY WORDS!
What does it all matter? They've gone and moved the A-10 Championships to Ohio from the Palestra. Basketball will never be the same again...
It's May, can we give basketball a little rest? All I really care about is whether Ed Stevens and Carol Vessey are going to hook up or not.
Something tells me Hobbs will bring us to new heights...maybe #6 in the country.
Mike K, you're kidding this is GW! we could go undefeated deep into the season and not break the top 10. ESPN thinks we're Gardner Webb.
Sorry MV. Phil Dunphy stole Carol and a distraught Ed Stevens became a golf pro playing out of the Hamptons
Let me correct you, newtman, ESPN "KNOWS" that we are Gardner Webb--without a doubt.
Oy.
Poog, another classic case of the male cheerleader always ending up with the girl.
Born near UCONN and lifelong Huskies fan (in addition to current Colonials duties). Would literally kill myself if Hobbs became UConn's coach. (Not literally, but maybe...)
