Very good analysis. Note that when Dayton went into the 2/3 zone Defense, we couldn't do anything with it. Why? Cause we don't have any player on the floor confident in taking and making a 15-18 foot open jumper. I was thinking the same -- if TJ was 6'3", he'd be absolutely awsome. He would spread the zones and open passing lanes. Chris won't (or maybe can't) play that type of game. Omar has no confidence in his jumper. And you just need a really tall guy who can dunk when he gets open for that under the basket pass. Oh well.

The ONLY system Hobbs has ever known is UConn's which has never had a traditional post center (I know, Okafor, but on the whole!). UConn has always had two scoring guards on the floor at all times. I'd be surprised if Hobbs would deviate from that formula. I still do not know what the "Hobbs system" is and would love a definition. We initially heard 80ppg and pressing defenses when he first came on board, but that doesn't seem to be what is preached or practiced now. They do press on occassion and always get burned when they do so. The offense appears to have no system at all. I think Kansas has the most comple basketball system around and they are able to incorporate new players all the time without major slip-ups. Of course, if GW had the luury of Kansas's resources, tradition and recruits perhaps all of this would be easier to implement. I'm still skeptical.

Herve, in my view, KH wants to press and run. He wants athletes who are interchangeable. I know he loves combo guards and big men that can run the floor. This is not to say he won't find places for guys like Darnell, Collucci and Tamal. But on the whole, he likes a guard oriented offense that breaks down defenses with dribble penetration and either score, kick out or dish inside to a guy like Pops who will flush it. But to be sucessful you need your 1-2-3 all capable of doing this. You see UConn go with Brown, Gordon and Robertson all the time along with Brown and Anderson. In KH's, and by definition UConn's system, you need lots of guys who can score from anywhere on the floor. Right now we have at best 2 (TJ and Chris) on the whole roster. Hopefully that will epand by at least 3 net year with Lucas, Lafonte, Elliot and another combo guard (Mawell???). Also I epect Omar and Mike to develop more of a perimeter game. If that happens watch how effective our post players (Pops, Ale and Tamal) become overnight. I think KH is going about this correctly. Time will tell.

Found this on the PrepWest site dated Jan 15: We ran into Ray Reed, 6-1 SR PG Inglewood (Calif.) High, last night at the Westchester/Fairfa game and asked him if he'd made a college decision yet. "Oregon St.," said Reed. We asked if he was ready to announce his choice yet and Reed replied, "well, nothing's certain yet, but I'm pretty sure I'll sign with Oregon St. in April." The scouting reports on Mawell indicate thet he's a solid-to-ecellent mid-range jump shooter as well. Hope we really do have a shot at him; lord knows he fits the KH mold: 6'5" and 180 pounds.

Disagree in part here. I certainly wouldn't object if we got a big mobile player. But we need scorers from the perimeter. TJ cannot continue to play 38-39 minutes a game. Lafonte should help so should Elliott but neither is a demonstrated scoring threat and Elliot has not yet played a game in college. At the 2-3, we have Omar and Mike (who can also play the four), Collucci and we're bringing in Lucas. We need another big guard that score from anywhere on the court. I'll take my chances with a stronger and more eperienced Pops, Ale, Jaz and Dokun and a healthier Tamal up front with Mike and Omar rotating through as well. Rock might also bring something to the table net season. The A-10 has been a guard's league for a number of years along with more mobile frontcourts. The way KH wants to play we need guards. P.S. If there are any defections at the end of the year we might be able to do both.

Simply a big man. Not necessarily an all-conference big man, but a serviceable, 6'10 player who weights more than 160 pounds. A player like Dayton's Sean Finn would be a godsend for this team. We also need a mid range jump shooter with a quick release who can score 10-15 points per game. A TJ who is about 5 inches taller (more for defensive purposes) would be ideal. We do not need any more swing men with incredible athleticism who can't rebound, shoot or play defense.
