I mean trapping zone presses, 1-3-1, 2-3, 1-2-3-4-5 and switching D constantly versus your basic man to man. I know we all eventually want this and it's a great fit with our athleticism, but it's lead to the dozens of open dunks and career 3PT shooting days that we seem to have attracted this year.

BM, can you elaborate on his system? I can't quite figure out what he's trying to get them to do that's so complicated. I don't mean that as an insult to Hobbs, just at face value. What can you tell us about what makes it so complicated to learn?

Today's Washington Post hails Maryland's newcomers and says at times it has been difficult to tell that they are in their first year in Division I men's basketball. So I was a little curious as to how our top four freshmen stack up (Hall, Williams, Kireev and Pops)against there top four (McCray, Caner-Medley, Garrison and Gilchrist). I compared points and rebounds per freshman player minute since GW freshmen get more minutes. The results: Maryland .34 points/minute .19 rebounds/minute GW .30 points/minute .22 rebounds/minute Now Maryland's recruits are being hailed as instant impact and many on this board are wondering about whether our recruits can play. This, and as I'm sure BM can tell you, Maryland's recruits were all ranked higher than ours. Makes you wonder why some are being so harsh here. The difference in our teams is that we don't have Blake, Nicholas, Randle, Holden etc. The future is bright. Patience.

It is true that MD's schedule is more difficult than ours. However, the counterbalance is look at the eperienced players who MD freshmen get to play with: Blake, Nicholas, Holden, Randle etc.

And what is the basis for rating KH as a "good" teacher? To me that is the core of last year's 10-game streak and this year's still-underway streak as well.

Lets not also forget that when looking at our freshmen vs Maryland's, some may say MDs schedule is slightly more difficult than ours. Hence, they are doing it against better competition

Just one specific point about Hobbs as a teacher. I attended a lot of Jarvis's practices, and a lot of Penders's. Only one of Hobbs's, because I have no general access to them. However, the one I attended was _etremely_ impressive in terms of how well organized it was, how disciplined it was, and the sheer amount of teaching (and apparent learning) that was happening. Understand that I'm not a great fan of what I've been seeing on the court, but what I saw that day in practice was etremely positive.

Seen him at practice and I would easily have him coach my kid (that is if I had a 6'6" scoring machine son). He's a great motivator and has a great grasp of the game. I would say that IMO, another deficiency is that he's too adament on making the freshmen play his system, as opposed to toning down the system (e.g., simpler defensive sets) for the freshman heavy class. That's something that a more eperienced coach would do.
