If anything, avier fans were elated that we were 8-3 going into A-10 play; we haven't had a team this young since the 1997-98 team that was picked to finish last in the A-10 West but woound up going to the WNIT instead. Even though we finally have our roster fairly healthy, we're still starting 2 freshmen (Miranda Green as our PG, Suntana Granderson as our SG), 2 sophomores (Kristy Wallner at WF, Tara Boothe at PF), and a junior transfer from NC State (C Adeola Olenrewaju). Boothe is our only consistent offensive weapon at this point, although everyone else on the team has had typical peak and valley games.

On the other side, look at GW. 3 seniors and 2 juniors start for the Colonials, and they have a much more eperienced lineup at this point. Although I wasn't surprised that GW won the game, it was still sobering that it was never close and GW could have made the score whatever it wanted to be. You guys are the cream of the crop in the league right now.

As with any young team, I really don't know what to epect from from game to game. Our game against Richmond is even more pivotal now; an 0-2 start in A-10 league play is going to be a deep hole to climb out of as far as eventual playoff positioning for the A-10 race.

I consider avier overrated, -band. Just as they couldn't be the same team when they lost the Phillips/Levandusky class, no way could they play at the same level as last year with their two outstanding guards gone. Boothe is good but was made much better by the quality of entrance passes she was receiving. I have no doubt that avier will remain among the top teams in the A-10; I just don't think that they had enough eperience behind the departees to play the same tune without skipping a beat...and last year's team was not as good as what they had been before.

GW is likely to endure some of the same growing pains net year. I've convinced myself that Providence redshirt Jessica Simmonds will step in and do fine for Ugo but I don't know that Keenan Cole can approach CJ...I think we've already discovered that Liz Dancause won't be that kind of go-to player. The season is still young but this year's freshman class has not been given the opportunity, or seized it, to demonstrate that they will continue GW at the top of the heap, at least not until they have a solid year of eperience under their belts, eperience that only Amanda LoCascio would appear to be in a position to gain. For now, we just want to enjoy our success...and keep a wary eye on the Musketeers when they visit the Smith Center. This rivalry is too good to result in two blowouts.

Simmonds will add a physical presence on defense and is a great rebounder. She does not possess many offensive skills in the area of passing or some shooting range beyond about 15 ft. Ugo is not a physical player. Cole is scrappy but does not have Joens' all-around scoring ability. I will be happy to see LoCasio spend more time on the floor net season.
