Wow VCU. Shame on you. Take your win, but don't pad it with that garbage officiating. You were going to win regardless, but the stuff that goes on in that arena is just pathetic.

I think the VCU faithful agrees . Go over to there forum and most of the fans calling the fouls on Tyler B.S. Blame it on the refs not the fan base.

2twotoed1/11/2017 7:33:15 PM

Refs are horrible. GW has no heart. Bullied all over the floor. Every zone we play is pathetic. At least the young bigs battle. Our guard play is beyond bad. Slow, slower, and slowest is our tempo.

bigfan1/11/2017 7:33:49 PM

Missed the fourth one, but sounds also crappy.Wade passed the word it should be done early.

Yo Goss, quit posting during the game

This has got to be the worst game I have ever watched. The game itself is bad, the officiating is embarrassing and makes the game too choppy to watch. ESPNS broadcast is bad showing ads for there next game during the game. The announcers are clearly biased to vcu, and seem more interested in talking about the acc then anything else. No redeeming qualities at all.

These refs would make Linda Bruno proud. (Although the game being on ESPN2 instead of Anchorage Public Access would be upsetting to her).

long suffering fan1/11/2017 8:10:43 PM

Are you flipping kidding me?  We just put on one of the worst displays of basketball I have ever witnessed and your want to lead with how bad the refs were?  If one thing was resolved tonight, I think it is I think you can put to rest the notion that you can get by with a 3rd assistant with no coaching experience as your head coach.  I think we can put the rest to the notion that Mojo will be hired on a full time basis.   Again, nothing against the kid, but he is just not ready.  Not fair to him, and not fair to the kids, for whom I felt more embarassment than anger.  The poor kids looked lost out there...they did not know what to do on either offense or defense.  But, seeing the glass as half full, we do have the 4,400 best recruit in the college coming to GW next year, so help is on the way.

To damn angry to even proof my rants.   Sorry.

Refs did not "cost GW" a game they got CRUSHED in, but they did suck beyond belief. It's not salt in a wound, it's bleach poured into an open heart surgery.

long suffering fan1/11/2017 8:36:09 PM

Of all my complaints about the game, I would say the refs were about #18.

Last year's losses to DePaul, St. Louis and St. Joes (x2) were much more painful than this one.

rkelley1/11/2017 9:18:08 PM

The NCAA needs to come down hard on games like this. Straight up, the refs--in no way shape or form--attempted to apply the rules neutrally. Whatever the motivating factor is, the end result is lopsided playcalling and it crippled GW tonight.

If the NCAA doesn't do something, federal law enforcement needs to step in to this billion-dollar business and shine a light on the officiating. Simple economics says corruption is theoretically rampant given the current policy. Do something about it.

former colonial1/11/2017 9:18:18 PM

Don't worry Hugh I suspect you will have a few more to add to the list before the end of the season. To be honest, I really don't see how this team wins more than 5 or 6 games in Conference.

ringding1/11/2017 9:26:47 PM

There should be zero that's just how NCAA basketball go when it comes to biased/unfair officiating. In this sport, where players are awarded free points for ambiguous rules, and even more points for questioning authority, you can't just chalk up biased officiatng to homecourt advantage. Application of the rules needs to be neutral at all times for this to be a legitimate competition that people pay money to see. Rigging the game to make more money, and please big fanbases and ticket buys is terrible.

Long Suffering Fan calls our Head coach "kid" how incredibly disrespectful.  Who are you Jeff Sessions? Stop your whining about Mojo, has literally nothing to do with Mojo. What a jackass post

red tide1/11/2017 11:11:07 PM

Jeff Sessions called Mojo a Kid??? It wouldn't be a complete evening of losing unless some precious snowflake liberal took a gratuitous shot at a conservative. The least you could do is refer to him by his future correct title ... Mr. Attorney General. Suck it you lost.

fmc1/11/2017 11:20:34 PM

Calling our Head Coach "a nice kid" is just incredibly disrespectful. Period.

long suffering fan1/11/2017 11:40:19 PM

Thank you to the keeper of the board's morality.  If you are less than half my age, you are a kid in my eyes.  If it was disrespect, I apologize, but no disrespect intended.

@LSF

You're in your 60's/70's? Props.

My Dad is about to turn 68. While he gets to an impressive words per minute peak using just 2 index fingers to type, I don't think he could ever navigate to a forum and post as regularly and as eloquently as you do. Props.

Young team which was overmatched, no guards, and this is what you get against VCU. Hope the bitter pill will remain long enough to get these young guys to really play.  Worse loss was against Vandy in NCAA's. But remember these names.  James Breeding, Clarence Armstrong, Evon Burroughs. When MJ complained to these gentlemen they told him to shut his face. Other refs did the same at St. Joe.  Refs were just putting a young coach in his place, and relishing it. Expect more of the same.

bigfan1/12/2017 3:54:26 AM

LSF too gracious. Okay to call the Youngest Coach in D1 a kid.

Especially if you are older, but in any case. Many sports nicknames even use the word Kid. Bill Clinton, a decade older than Mojo at the time, once called himself The Comeback Kid.

Who does this offend? Kids?

Or the perpetually offended?

LSF attended Taft's innauguration! Anyone born after the Gulf of Tonkin "incident" is a "kid" in his eyes.

Our February rematch with VCU is a 9:00 pm start.  Which now suddenly feels more like a midnight start.  As in, I'm not sure I want to go.  (I will, but it will be challenging after witnessing this game.)

As for officiating, GW could have received every questionable call or no-call and still would have lost this game by at least 18.  I'd rather save my griping about officials to games where their ineptitude truly impacted the outcome.

I'll also simply say that I am against a federal investigation concerning NCAA basketball officiating, and will leave it at that.

long suffering fan1/12/2017 9:59:52 AM

I will be 65 years old later this month.  Whenever I get depressed about it, I can always say that I lived long enough to see them tear down the nets in MSG after winning the NIT, and then I remember that I am younger than ziik so I don't feel so bad about it anymore.   Thanks for the kind words.  I honestly don't try to offend anyone when posting.

long suffering fan1/12/2017 10:06:25 AM

And yes...I was in the group of anti-war protesters that got tear gassed at the Student Center (My generation never called it the Marvin Center) just a few months after it opened  If memory serves me correct, due to the on campus disturbances, Manfred Mann cancelled the fee on his concert at GW that week, saving all of us the $1.00 general admission charge.  (Sadly, he had already turned hip, so he refused to do "Do a Diddy" but did a great version of "The Mighty Quinn".This was before he released "Blinded by the Light")   Was anyone else there?

ziik1/12/2017 12:01:03 PM

You're not all that muuch younger than ziik, LSF. But, I guess my life peaked with the Joe cocker, Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour. otherwise, I still think of myself as The Kid and Slim.  I was called both, a mere 50 years ago.

ziik1/12/2017 12:01:39 PM

ps- Mojo is a kid. I think he can coach, but still a kid.

Some clarifications are in order.

There is a running joke on this board that started when a VCU fan visited here and actually used the phrase "our refs" after a GW victory at Smith Center, as in just wait until the rematch at VCU when we'll have "our refs."  It was seemingly an ignorant comment (I really don't think he was joking) but the phrase caught on here when discussing one-sided officiating during several double digit losses.  Last night was no exception.  Herve's thread isn't leading with the officiating as if to say that this is primarily why GW lost (at least I don't think that's what he meant).  The title of the thread is really to remind some regulars here of this running joke which gets less funny with each subsequent loss.

In fact, RKelley has been the most tempermental about last night's officiating, uncovering a conspiracy theory that you are free to believe, and even he hasn't claimed that the officiating was the reason why the team lost last night.  As he said, you can play badly and endure terrible officiating.  Which is exactly what took place last night.

So for the record, I don't believe that anyone has actually said that the primary reason for last night's loss was officiating.
