it looks like a January clearing house.

Let's give ML a break and support our coach.

Anything less he will leave for another school and we have a 3 year project.

Best to the coach.

By: Bigfan (2,829 posts) - 7/26/2016 9:05:46 PM

Wasn' t looking good,so Neil may as usual, have it nailed.

And hope Neil can provide info on controversy. Enlighten us, Neil.

A major point: Darnell only need to look inside his family to find a Colonial great who started mid-year and had a Hall of Fame impact and great love from the fans.

By: Poster (5 posts) - 7/26/2016 10:47:29 PM

if you were to put a % on ML being pushed before the season starts, what would it be?

By: Neil (314 posts) - 7/27/2016 7:59:38 AM

I would say the chance ML is gone before the season is zero.

By: Bo Knows (705 posts) - 7/27/2016 8:19:13 AM

Neil has been spot on lately. Maybe some of the ML doubters might be given some pause now.

By: Bigfan (2,829 posts) - 7/27/2016 7:44:26 PM

Neil serms to have had extraordinary insight in the past.

By: Yinka dont Stinka (101 posts) - 7/27/2016 8:33:17 PM

Well Neil the Great is wrong this time

Don't know about the timing, but true or not you can't wash this stuff off.

By: Neil (314 posts) - 7/27/2016 10:00:34 PM

I stand on the record.

My answers to questions on this board have been correct.

ML is our coach and will remain our coach.

By: Bigfan (2,829 posts) - 7/27/2016 11:49:29 PM

Wouldn' t look to him for TV listings, but Neil has quite the track record.

Perhaps Neil can elaborate.

By: GW 69 (7/28/2016 7:05:28 AM)

Perhaps Neil is right. If he already knows the outcome of the

"Investigation" that's worrisome. Is it  a done deal? Are they going through

the motions? Why? To what end?

By: McScottishPride (409 posts) - 7/28/2016 12:56:17 PM

Can anyone translate this thread?

By: Bigfan (2,829 posts) - 7/28/2016 3:53:18 PM

Yes, will try.

Getting Darnell cleared academically may take until January, Neil says.

This would normally ruin our entire preseason, bring great anguish to those of us who have waited literally 20 years for this since his father played-- and cause a fierce debate that would bring a post count past 100.

But right now it is merely a barely visible pimple of the ass of our program's problems.

By: Mike K (1,177 posts) - 7/28/2016 4:05:36 PM

well put, bigfan.

By: Bea (7/28/2016 4:40:10 PM)

I will regret asking this, but I'm prepared to hide behind any number of lame excuses:

Who is his father?

By: Poster (5 posts) - 7/28/2016 4:56:41 PM

His father is Shawanta Rogers, the best GW player of the modern era & A10 Player of th Year in 1999.

By: Bea (7/28/2016 5:15:39 PM)

Ah. I knew I would regret asking; he was a little before my time. I could only get as far back as the Pops/Mike era, and then drew a blank. I'll catch on.

Thanks, Poster.

By: BACCAS92 (705 posts) - 7/28/2016 5:28:12 PM

Darnell, I call upon you to assist our program.  Your father served us well during the A-10 Wars of the 90's. Now, there is a new threat to the GW Republic--a dark overlord known as Darth Bezos who has focused his powerful weapon called The Washington Post upon our mid-major program.

By: BACCAS92 (705 posts) - 7/28/2016 5:29:06 PM

Darnell, you are my only hope.  Help me Darnell-one PG, Help me.

By: Igor... Not Yegor (291 posts) - 7/28/2016 7:01:50 PM

Bea... I say this in the most respectful way that I am possibly able to do so. In the spirit of "there is no such thing as a stupid question" and trying to honor Herve's maxim about not name calling and so forth... but your post may have been the single dumbest post in the history of this site. I mean there have been some really stupid crap written on here over the last 20+ years. I myself have inked a few bonehead liquor induced doozies. But asking who is the father of Darnell Rogers? Kids today... SMH

By: ziik (2,950 posts) - 7/28/2016 7:08:37 PM

Igor, I think posts that question Neil's inside dope are, well, dopey

The guy has another name. Maybe it is Lonergan.

By: The MV (4,915 posts) - 7/28/2016 7:12:44 PM

It has been ten minutes and I have not stopped laughing at Igor's post.  Sorry Bea.

By: NJ Colonial (1,980 posts) - 7/28/2016 7:31:16 PM

There are no Mid-Major teams, just Mid-major fans.  GW is not a Mid-major anything.  Have some pride!

By: Bea (7/28/2016 8:19:43 PM)

Do I get to take a bow? Curtesy?

I did try Googling it, but the name Google returned for his kid was actually different - Terrell - so I assumed it couldn't be the same, which is why I asked.

I said up front I'd regret it.

Also, for the record, I'm not fluent in GWHoops - yet. I found this site Googling a coach who left GW under weird circumstances. (Since the other thread seems to require posting a CV to validate one's opinion: I'm a double-alumna of GW wirh strong ties, I'm licensed, it's not legal advice, you can't afford me.) The Kilgore Post article mentioned a former "staffer;" I wanted to know who that "staffer" was. I gave myself a crash course in local ball, went down a dozen rabbit holes, and in part because of what you all said years ago to exclude someone else, I figured it out. Then I kept reading about GW MBB becahse it was less depressing than the original topic. It took me a while to get caught up to now. Obv, I missed a few key connections. (Rogers was before the tenure of the guy I was looking for, and I admit that didn't read every post here since half of the time you all don't seem to be right about recruits anyway, so I missed the tie-in.) You got me. It was stupid. Won't happen again. (Probably will, but whatever.)

By: Igor... Not Yegor (291 posts) - 7/28/2016 8:34:10 PM

No need to mea culpa Bea. Just having a little online fun at your expense. To be honest, I just read your post in the other thread... and you had me when you said "malarkey".

By: GYHP (7/28/2016 8:43:05 PM)

Why go after Bea? All I read on this board is how last year was the greatest year in the history of the program, when the 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 teams would have eaten last year's team alive. Greatest year in history of the program = losing 7 conference games, 5th in the conference. Ridiculous.

By: Free Quebec (6,340 posts) - 7/28/2016 9:43:57 PM

Bea, this is just a tiny part of the legend of Shawnta Rogers.  This game was to seal the A10 regular season title against Xavier.  Shawnta had a terrible case of the flu, missed previous game, could barely move in the first half.  Hit 5 treys in second half including this one.

In case embedding didn't work, here's a link.

By: Igor... Not Yegor (291 posts) - 7/28/2016 9:59:35 PM

I didn't understand a single word uttered by anyone not named Shawnta in this video... still I was drawn to it like a fly to a light bulb.

By: Mentzinger (3,646 posts) - 7/28/2016 11:47:59 PM

Bea, if you are by chance female, just know you would be the board's first in more than 15 years. Herve can correct me if I'm wrong. Welcome.

By: Bea (7/29/2016 12:03:23 AM)

awww, thanks!!

I really do know who Shawnta is. (not personally...) I've even seen the first clip. I didn't know he had two sons; I thought he had one (with a diff name) who played (or plays?) somewhere else. I bet I could find where, I just stopped looking when I thought it wasn't irrelevant.

That other guy above brings up an interesting point, though, about quality of play/ team success with a superstar. Is Shawnta responsible for the single best shot in GW MBB hx? Do you have that clip? If he is not, then who is? When was it? What about the the best (most creative/ effective/ wow-factor) play?

By: Mike K (1,177 posts) - 7/29/2016 9:52:08 AM

Welcome aboard Bea!!

By: Igor... Not Yegor (291 posts) - 7/29/2016 10:41:31 AM

I was confusing Rogers' kids.

another stupid question:

is Darnell Rogers the reason why Jorgensen transferred?

Sina will probably start, but Mike switches guys in and out a lot, right? So was Jorgensen going to be #3 again?

And yes, female... But a fast learner and a legitimate sports fan, I promise.

By: Igor... Not Yegor (291 posts) - 7/29/2016 10:48:01 AM

I'm assuming the above post was penned by Bea (not by me). More flattered than offended. We'll just chalk it up to a slip (Freudian or otherwise).

By: Bea (7/29/2016 11:12:05 AM)

Whoooaaaa -- yes. I don't know how I did that. I'm sorry. How did I do that? Really, I'm very sorry. The content of the post stands but FFS, I'm me. The name box must auto-populate if you don't change it every time? Is there a way to make it stick as me, or a Rules page? I wasn't calling you a girl, or trying to make it look like you asked the stupid question. It's pretty obvious you wouldn't ask that. I'd still like to know if Rogers is why Jorgensen transferred, but that name thing wasn't intentional; I don't even know how I did it. Mea culpa. AGAIN.

By: McScottishPride (409 posts) - 7/29/2016 12:31:33 PM

It happens sometimes. The site sometimes pulls in different poster names when auto-filling the field.

By: RUSerious (7/29/2016 12:41:51 PM)

This Darnell info can't possibly be true. Collin Goss told one of the posters here (can't remember who) that Darnell was fine and would be travelling to Japan. Said poster took it as gospel.

By: Igor... Not Yegor (291 posts) - 7/29/2016 1:27:11 PM

Yeah... No worries Bea. As McScottishPride explains, it happens all the time. I was just teasing. As far as PJ leaving at end of the year... at the time I thought that he probably was feeling that he had lost the confidence of the coaching staff. He was losing playing time to Mitola as the season wore on (including taking big shots at end of games and so on). For this year, on paper it looked good for him as we graduated Joe Mac as well as Mitola but in reality GW was bringing in several players that could  take mins in the guard rotation (Sina, Rogers, Bolden and Mitola's younger brother). Add to that, the continued improvement of Hart and JR and the amount of playing time for PJ next year may not have been as prevalent as one may think. Mind you, I have no knowledge of any of this... Just speculation on my part. All that being said, given the numerous accusations going around these days.. who knows why he transferred.

i fear PN not ML might be gone soon.

By: Bea (7/29/2016 1:48:31 PM)

That makes sense. rogers looks much faster and more agile than the others. It's like watching tv on fast-forward. That'll help. (Googled the right one this time.)

I'm optimistic for this season.

By: Bea (7/29/2016 2:51:20 PM)

Wait, what? Sorry, Neil. I buried your resp about Patrick. That's big. You mean voluntarily... right?

By: Bigfan (2,829 posts) - 7/29/2016 7:57:53 PM

Neil has quite the track record.

Also,welcome Bea.

Don' t let us scare you off with hazing. So far,it' s been.politically correct, one thinks. But don't let it bother you.

Why we are so thrilled or were so thrilled, depending on the clearinghouse, is that Shawnta is was listed at 5'4. But he led the league in three or four categories,if memory serves. And he even rebounded well.

Sxhawnta made a great living playing pro basketball overseas at his height. That takes determination.

Darnell seems even shorter, though has much taller haircut. Yet,while different from his father, Darnell made quite a splash on the AAU circuit. That also takes special determination and true grit or fortitude.

Now, even if Neil is correct (and he only said how it looks right now, again would like to point out that Darnell only need look in hisbown house to see a beloved, G W hall of fame playet who didn't start his tremendous career until second semester.

Still, the Rogers name is beloved by GW basketball fans all over the world. And can be again if things work out,no matter when they do.

By: Bigfan (2,829 posts) - 7/29/2016 9:57:27 PM

Please let's keep this to why we are eager for Darnell to play.

And to sincerely welcoming Bea,who will love Darnell like we love his father and now, Darnell.

Let's keep our eyes on the prize and our head in the game. We lace ' em up and play one subject at a time.

By: Bea (7/30/2016 9:19:13 AM)

I'm excited for the future of the team; if Rogers is as good as you as say, then this could be the start of something really special. The electricity in New York (when it was "just" the NIT) was unreal. It would be awesome to keep the momentum.

Poster, I will say this one final time here:

I found you all looking for info on a sleazy (yet bafflingly well-regarded) former GW coach, who left. I kept reading. stayed. did I ask about this board to real humans? you bet your ass. I've admitted I have ties to GW and that I'm a loyal alumna. I was told speifically that I know a few of you, and to play nice. but it's a free country, I'm a fan, I'm an alumna, I attend more games than most - home and away - I legit BLEED buff and blue, and you can't scare me.

I've actually had more one-on-one interaction with Patrick than Mike, but I'm not BFFs with either. If my writing is "neutral" here, I can assure you my feelings are not. I'm just not that stupid.

GYHP knows who I am, and presumably knows why I'm anon. He knows I'm a woman. He knows I'm not "friends" or "buddies" or "chums" with the Lonergan family. If he's actually literate, he knows my opinion on this and other matters. Maybe he'll grow a set and introduce himself at a basketball game, because I don't know who he is. I don't live in Bowie, I've never lived in Bowie, I don't think I know anyone from Bowie, and until the winter of 2013, I didn't know where it was. I can assure you, on that particular day, Mike Lonergan and his "crew" were no where near Bowie.

I have an opinion. I've been attending GW athletics events since I graduated - and not just basketball - well before Mike et al came aboard. I know GW lore, history, and I love my alma mater.

Don't ever question me or my identity again. I am here to learn more about, to discuss, and to debate GWHoops. If Herve wants to find a private way to verify me, I welcome that, but otherwise, this topic is forever closed.

I have about a dozen questions about Rogers' playing style and how it will fit into Mike's game. Assuming Mike stays (since we don't know who else would be here), who do you think would do more adjusting, etc.

By: thinker (2,825 posts) - 8/1/2016 10:34:43 AM

I think Bea shouldn't get shit for asking a question about something from a long time ago. Or from anything recent either. It's almost cetainly a good thing that she hasn't been on this board all day every day for years and years.

BTW the whole roast beef sandwich thing is just a goof referencing a long running gag on this board from about 10 years ago. There is nothing offensive about it. It was just part of, what I thought was a hilarious dialogue between two posters going to Jets games etc.

By: Poster (5 posts) - 8/1/2016 11:03:02 PM

The MV had an imaginary friend Longing for Oscar.  Circa 2010, The imaginary friend could not reach his very good dear friend The MV, but he would contact him using the only way possible,  After which, The MV and his imaginary friend LFO would regale about what a wonderful time they had including Limo rides packed with luminaries and delicious Roast Beef.  The imaginary friend The MV created also "agreed with The MV 100% of the time" on every thread on

By: Bea (8/2/2016 12:27:11 AM)

Ahhhhh. Gotcha. Yeah, that wasn't at all Googleable. I was wayyyy off, and genuinely curious. Thanks for letting me in.

That's a spectacular story. Not least because it's a fair bet that no one before or since has taken limousine to see the Jets...

Why isn't Rogers able to start right away? "Clearinghouse" = procedural, not injury? if that's the second dumbest question ever, I'll Google it more.

Sensitive question but... he's a lock at this point, right? No matter what happens with the other issues ... he's a GW-guy, not as much an any one person AT GW guy?

By: thinker (2,825 posts) - 8/2/2016 1:30:46 AM

So Bea, I was teasing but not trying to do that in a malicious way.

As far as Darnell, when a player hasn't been cleared yet, it could be for a variety of reasons. Some or all of those reasons might not be shared with GW. Certainly it would be a serious privacy violation for anyone to disclose the actual issues if they were known Generally it has to do with verifying grades, test scores, validity of courses and schools; it could be that some booster mucked around and gave the player or family some benefit; for a foreign player it could relate to whether they were "professional" when playing in club leagues in Europe Sometimes the problem might be known and remedied by taking additional classes.

But you aren't cleared until you're cleared and the NCAA is not under any particular obligation to resolve things by any particular time or let the school know.

I'm not sure how soon his scholarship "attaches" as it were that he couldn't transfer without having to sit out a year. He might not have been officially admitted to GW yet, for example. Or his scholarship might not become effective until he qualifies. I don't know how that works exactly or what his formal status is at GW. But that could make a difference as well.

I know that all the other freshmen are likely unable to transfer at this point without sitting out a year.

But while Shawnta feels a high degree of loyalty to GW, I think what anyone does is going to depend on what the result of the investigation is. Even if Darnell would have to sit out to transfer.I don't think that Shawnta would hesitate if he thought GW was no longer a good place for Darnell.

If ML ultimately departs as a result of this stuff then who knows what any of the players end up doing. If ML stays, then I'm pretty confident that Darnell will stay for at least a year. The problem for any schools recruiting Darnell has been that nobody could be very sure how his unique skill set/body size will play out in college. I don't think that ML could be sure at all at the point he offered him and I don't hink Shawnta and Darnell were that sure.

His success in college is going to depend on how he is able to compete against the bigger and better athletes than he mostly faced in HS, and also if ML is able to figure out a scheme that takes full advantage of his uniqueness. Both sides want to see if can work, but I don't think either side would be surprised if it didn't. And if it didn't look like it was going to work out, I think Darnell would transfer fairly quickly. I don't know what either side would say constitutes "working out." I also don't think that ML's  "intensity" will be an issue because Shawnta is VERY old school himself.

During the Hobbs era I was a bit of an insider. That's very much not the case any more. But I do have a friend who knows Shawnta fairly well. So what I've said here is based on conversations with my friend.

By: Bigfan (2,829 posts) - 8/2/2016 3:07:56 AM

Might not have been best for Darnell to switch high schools after being signed. But GW has stuck by him

Darnell and Shawnta know loyalty, like a coach taking a risk on a player that good programs passed on just because of his size. And it goes without saying, they of course know the right thing is for Darnell to stick with GW while this process works out.

Whenever Darnell gets in a GW uniform, good things will come for everyone.

By: The MV (4,915 posts) - 8/2/2016 10:27:27 AM

Please do not refer to my friend as imaginary.  That's rather insulting.

By: thinker (2,825 posts) - 8/2/2016 2:50:13 PM

I miss Oscar posting here and it was always clear to me that he is a separate person. I honestly loved the postings about games and limos and roast beef etc. I'm fairly sure I never fully "got it" but I didn't need to in order to enjoy it. I also truly miss Old Blue Chicken.

By: The MV (4,915 posts) - 8/2/2016 3:45:15 PM

Thinker, I'm not sure I ever fully got it either.  During that time, I would call him up and say things like maybe you should knock off the roast beef/limo type posts because the board appears to be tiring of it.  And he would agree and say that I was probably right.  By the next morning, he would have already started a new rb/limo type update.  So I'd ask him whether we just talked about stopping and he'd say he fogot and that he was sorry.  And then, he would just keep it going.  In the end, I couldn't help but laugh because the more I said stop, the more he'd agree and then proceed anyway.

LFO is well, still follows the team but not as intently as he used to.  For example, it took him 6 days after the Post article was pubished to ask me what the fuck was going on in Foggy Bottom.

By: Poster (5 posts) - 8/2/2016 3:54:02 PM

The MV, you expect a collection of GW graduates to believe that you had a friend, a supposed big roller, who was securing tickets to big games and limo rides packed with fine roast beef, but in 2010 had no other way to reach you except for posting on This friend of yours you would go to games with etc, he had no way to send you emails, no other way whatsoever as "the friend LFO" claimed repeateadly at the time? The friend also ended most posts with "Agree with you 100% of the time The MV, you are the greatest poster and the board should all thank you endlessly for your mere presence here, and things of that nature" And was quick to attack anyone who disagreed with you, including writing just awful things about Ziik and his health.

A collective eye rolling out of the socket then ...and now.
