2018 Woodrow Wilson High forward Ricardo Lindo is on an unofficial visit to George Washington, per source

Grew six inches in last year.  Doctors say he can grow a couple more.

Wilson just won the DCIAA tournament title in dominant fashion last week. They'll be playing in the DCSAA state tournament in a few days which will feature high-profile teams like Gonzaga, St.John's and Maret. Ricardo Lindo can really make a name for himself if Wilson gets to the championship game or wins the tournament. Has MOJO been going to his games?

bm2/27/2017 9:53:33 PM

The coaches have either been recruiting in stealth mode or they've been too busy coaching the current team.  Not as much noise about GW targets as the last few years.

Lindo was sitting a few rows up behind the bench I think.

Ricardo is a 2018, does anyone know the remaining scholarship #'s currently available for:

1. 2018

2. 2017

gwg2/27/2017 10:12:14 PM

For 2017 it's 2 (Cavanaugh and Hart) assuming no one transfers. Both those are spoken for with Mazzula and Jack coming in.

For 2018 I believe it's 3 (Yuta, Steeves, Sina) again assuming no transfers.

me2/27/2017 10:25:46 PM

@GWG I believe we have an additional scholarship because we never got Darnell. So we should have one more left for 2017.

elj2/27/2017 10:28:25 PM

As a Wilson alumnus back in the day, I'd love to see us land this kind.  Pure bias on my part, admittedly.

gwg2/27/2017 10:29:20 PM

Good point, that ones been open all year- forgot about it haha

the dude2/27/2017 10:58:17 PM

Thx GWG.

Didn't Juice take the Darnell spot?

BM, with all the uncertainty about the head coach, this has got to be the most uneventful recruiting year of all time for GW!! It's good that GW is now linked to a local recruit who attended a game and who we can track through the rest of this season, AAU/Summer League ball and his SR year at Wilson. Looking at the Verbal Commits link that you provided, it appears as if Lindo is a mid-major prospect at the moment, hopefully he'll remember GW showed an interest if his stock rises in the future.

This is a link to Wilson's DCIAA championship game win over Roosevelt. Lindo is #23, he has long arms and is very athletic. Some of his highlights include a steal and dunk at 2:52 and also drives down the baseline for a 2-handed dunk @ 3:32

According to Verbal Commits, there are 3 scholarships available for the HS Class of 2017. There are only 12 scholarship players on the team, I believe the NCAA regulation is 13.

Thomas,

I did see in this article that UNLV is looking at him ( a bit odd), but as you point out, he'll get a wider audience if Wilson does well in the DCSAA.

dmvpiranha2/28/2017 11:27:33 AM

Wynston Tabbs, Noah Locke, and Bryce Golden are other names on that list that we are recruiting hard from the area. I'm surprised that Tabbs hasn't picked up higher offers yet but I'm not complaining; it makes our chances better. Golden and Locke have already been offered by bigger programs. It is a bit surprising that UNLV is recruiting him, but they has been recruiting the DMV and Baltimore area very well the past few years (Roscoe Smith, Dwayne Morgan, Jerome Seagears through transfer, Daquan Cook), but it seems like forever since they were any good in the mountain west. Their in-state rival Nevada has been trending in the opposite direction. Musselman's staff has done a great job bringing in transfers. Stephens from Purdue and the Martin brothers from NC State are going to make the Wolf Pack real dangerous next year.

Thomas,

I have seen him around Tenleytown. Really like the idea of getting a guy who played as a six-footer, then grew. That way, he has the skills of a smaller player (sort of like Yuta).... Did I say Yuta? A nice ad to a stable of very young, but upside bigs that we have. I could see hom on the top of the 1-3-1.

the dude2/28/2017 3:15:22 PM

So we do have 1 available scholarship for 2017?

thomas2/28/2017 3:15:38 PM

BM,  thanks for the link. the fact that UNLV is already interested in Lindo probably indicates he'll be getting BCS interest/offers in the near future. It's possible that MOJO is recruiting guys like Lindo in stealth mode. Do you know what AAU team Lindo plays with? I haven't seen his name listed with any AAU teams. If he isn't with any of the big-name, local AAU teams, I'm assuming he'll join one soon due to his growth spurt and improved play.

Tuna Can,  if you see Lindo again around Tenleytown(not far from his high school) tell him about all the good things GW can provide him. If he doesn't seem interested, offer him some money to sign. HA!

DMVPirhana(or anyone else who wants to answer),   I've got a question about another name on the list that BM posted, what do you think of H.D.Woodson guard Derquan Washington?? He is an undersized shooting guard and has an unusual shooting release, but he's quick and can put up points in a hurry!! His teammate(Boyd) gets all the headlines and is being recruited by a bunch of BCS schools, but he's almost as impactful as Boyd is in their games.

We have one more spot available for 2017. Here is an excellent resource:

Just saw in the WUSA9 link I posted above that "Earlier in the week, Yale took a visit to the school, to add to interest from Stanford, Maryland, George Washington, George Mason, Columbia, Kansas State, Lehigh, Davidson, Hampton, and Towson."

Doesn't seem to have any AAU affiliation yet.

bm3/1/2017 9:30:15 AM

Thomas,

Just saw this in the post today.  Looks like Woodson forfeited their game in the DCSAA tournament.  Article mentions Boyd and Washington missing a game because of "school-related violations".  That could explain the lack of interest from GW by itself.

tuna can3/1/2017 9:33:14 AM

Thomas, I'm on it. The joke is that a player like this young lad wouldn't be playing at a public school unless he just grew to 6-7 recently. The Private Schools are so competitive with their own reruiting.

thomas3/1/2017 12:45:36 PM

BM,  that's some interesting information there about H.D.Woodson, it looks like Boyd and Washington have some "baggage" that could scare colleges off. Boyd is considered the better prospect of the 2(he may be a top 100 player for the class of 2018) so he'll get more of an opportunity to play college ball. I'm assuming that an AAU or college coach who sees dollar signs with Boyd will get him into a basketball factory/prep school for his SR year so he has no issues entering college. I actually clicked on your WUSA9 link yesterday, but only watched the video. I just looked at the article and saw the list of schools, so we can conclude that Lindo is no longer under the radar. At least, he's been on GW's campus already and attended a game.

Tuna Can,  yeah, the trend for the last 10-15 years has been to steer all the talented local players to area private schools. Vaughan Jones changed that a bit because he was getting talented 8th graders to attend Coolidge or he was getting private school players who lived in D.C. to transfer to Coolidge when he coached. Has there been any talk of Lindo transferring to a private school for his SR year??

B&BB, awesome chart, thx very helpful.

Looking at this chart you can really learn a lot about program arcs and development.  Dayton, URI and VCU all are led by Senior/Junior classes that have been together for 3 or 4 years. In contrast GW has only one player who played on the 2015 team (YW)  The 2014 NCAA team is of course all gone, but so are 12 of the 13 guys who were on the 2015 team.

Wilson beat Friendship Tech in the DCSAA quarterfinals yesterday 59-56, I haven't been able to find a boxscore or video to see how Lindo did, if I find anything I'll post it. Wilson advances to the semifinals where they will take on Gonzaga(the WCAC champs) in a highly anticipated matchup. The game is tomorrow(3/3) night at 9PM at Georgetown's McDonough Gym. There will be a lot of coverage of this game and it may be streamed live online. I'll post that link for the game at some point tomorrow. This is the kind of game in which Lindo can really open some eyes because there should be a lot of coaches in attendance looking at 2 or 3 big-time prospects on Gonzaga.

He lists on Twitter seemingly every time a team offers (though may have missed two).   Other offers are:

Lehigh

Loyola

Yale

High Point

Brown

Harvard

Hampton

Campbell

Robert Morris

Columbia

Mt St Mary's

Bowling Green

Canisius

Also took an unofficial visit to VCU, but not offer at this point.

bigfan5/1/2017 11:37:34 PM

While the basketball offer level for now is not overwhelming, the academic level sure is.

So that says something really impressive about Mr. Lindo.

Hope he remembers which major school (GW) gave him his first big offer and stays loyal. Bonus: we're right at home.

He can live away from home, like any young man wants, but not be away. A great deal.

He is reclassifying to 2019, leaving Frankie Policelli as our only currently "listed" wing offer for next year. Hoping to land one for next year with four open scholarships available and Yuta graduating.

thomas8/10/2017 1:18:24 PM

I'm assuming Lindo reclassifying to the 2019 class means he has transferred to an out-of-town basketball-factory school?? What school is he attending now?

bball watcher8/11/2017 11:39:35 AM

Dont be surprised to see a good local wing offered in the next few days.

Yes sir BBall Watcher. MOCO Observer told me there might be a late breaking development regarding a wing from Montgomery County who recently switched AAU teams and played well the last part of the July period. Are we talking about the same guy?
