New GW Fan

Okay first i'd like to say straight away I'm a Umass fan as I spent a few semesters there as a student and a few more as a ... well never mind.

Anyway my son is an incomming freshman this year so I decided i should at least start getting to know the hoops program. I have fond memories of GW and Coach Jarvis battling Umass and Coach Cal.

I see Coach L is on board now and that is good. He's is a fine coach and should help the program move forward. I actually see some simalarities between the two programs going from competitive tourney teams in the 90's to also rans and now starting to move on up again. I will be rooting for GW from now on along with UMass so I'll probably be on this board once in a while.

Go Blue and Bluff!

Nice to have you on board Boots63.  Pledging allegiance to UMASS and GW?  That sounds like a much smaller scale version of rooting for the Red Sox and the Yankees, but I wish you well with the task.  Always nice to gain another GW fan.

Enjoy the board.  We're really basically a small, nice group of folks.  A few of us possibly get out of control every once in a blue moon, but such is life on a message board.

Welcome Boots63. And good luck with having a kid going to GW, I assume your house sits over a combination oil well/paladium mine. We here also have memories of "Coach Cal" ourselves, and he is taking his clothes off in them!

GW hoops (and gwhoops.com) are not for the faint-hearted. It is a roller-coaster ride where the ups are few but very pleasant and the downs are... well, let's just put it this way: suicide may be painless but rooting for GW is not.

In any case, this board is never dull and it is far more intelligent than the bulk of message boards on the Internet, not to mention sports message boards on the Internet or A-10 sports message boards on the Internet. In fact, you are as likely to find words that will surpass the vocabulary talents of an English Lit major, references to Gavrilo Princip and reviews of haute cuisine ingredients here as you are to find any discussion of actual GW hoops. Posters range from people who pre-date the building of the Smith Center to incoming students, with one or two who even remember GW football.

A note on ettiquette-- Herve is the ubergod who puts this page together as his personal service to the GW Community, be nice to him and realize that there are no video games on this site for a reason; let "Neil" ask for the video links to stream the games; keep the politics limited; hate the f@%#ing hippo; and Hail to the Buff!!! Hail to the Blue!!!

Well said GWAA. I would add that each of us is completely insane.

Welcome! We've been doing whatever is we do here for over 15 years. There is really only one main rule: make an argument. The other "sub-rule" is don't call someone an evil pantload. Feel free to mention the Black Hand as well as Principe. References to Neville Chamberlain are always a good idea, along with bourbon suggestions.

....speaking of which, my wonderful wife took me out to Jose Andres' pop-up recently and purchased me a quality glass of Thomas Jefferson Reserve along the way which was remarkable. Drink it neat and you will NOT be dis-satisfied.

I bought a bottle of TJ for mrs. ziik. She's been nursing it for a couple of months, and telling me it's just "ok." Since I've cut out serious drinking, in  favor of just a bout or two a month of drunken excess, I've left it to her. Now, I see, after all these years, I just cannot trust that woman.

Thanks for the heads up, herve.

So, I'll be turning on the mrs. after 3 decades of wedded bliss, and giving her the first serious spousal whuppin, as is my rights here in Virginia.

Any guess on how long it takes The MV to rid himself of the gentleman's veneer, and turn on Boots63?
