Wow they really did screw GW. Nothing for Armwood? Nothing for Larsen? Nothing for Garino?

Also it really is unbelievable that Armwood got nothing.

GW's absense from the All-Rookie Team in any way shape or form is the most glaring omission here

Fuel the fire.  Keep these Freshman working hard.  They still have a lot to prove.  Keep them motivated over the summer.

Agreed, keep them hungry and  there's no I in TEAM.  But, Armwood should've gotten some recognition...

Armwood not picked. I guess rebounding and blocked shots don't matter to the people picking the All A-10 teams.  Oh wait they do if you don't play for GW!  Anyone have an idea what other A-10 coaches and AD's think of their counterpart at GW?

Armwood's stats almost identical to XU's Travis Taylor who made third team All conference and got most improved player.

Darien Brothers a very weak pick.

I suspect Garino's injury cost him a spot on all rookie.

I thought Armwood would have at least made all-defense because of the shot blocking and GWs defensive prowess.   Oh well.

I like the academic pick and...

By the way, I wonder if Patricio and KevLar sit the votes (like some coaches didn't want to put two GW guys on).

I can't get too worked up over this.  We all see far more GW games and are obviously biased when it comes to discussing snubs.  Had Zeke been a more consistent scorer during the second half of the season, he'd have received an award.  Kevin also lacked consistency even though he showed how good he can be when he was getting the ball regularly.  We all know how sound Pato is defensively but the A10 coaches aren't observing his play like we are.  In fact, he was charged for a fairly high number of fouls which may have been a reason to vote for others.

True, MV, but usually the award goes to the too two or three in steals and blocks and Pato was three.  ( though the top two in blocks both, surprisingly, got left off).

I thought Armwood was in the top 3 in the Conference for Rebounds and Blocked Shots. Tthrow in double figure  ppg and that sounds deserving to me.

Don't they use conference-only (in theory) for A10 awards?

3/12/2013 5:02:33 PM
Poster: Free Quebec

I don't think there is any stated criteria.  I think it's more an overally award, though obviously conference play gets extra weight because the coaches are watching most carefully (though I think half the coaches just give it to an assistant or an intern to fill out).

Must have been the great FT defense of the A-10 teams.  That stat makes it all the more maddening.  And we are so good at getting to the line.  Second in conference play behind only UNCC in FT attempts.  AHHHHHH.  Hoping for friendly rims at the barclays center.

As Foam Hat wisely points out, GW was 6th in the A10 in the most important stat, FTM.  Not bad but if they could get to 3rd or 4th in the league next year, that would really help out.

bobo, we were #1 in missed FT and the worst FT percentage.  that should tell you something and it's not good.  fortunately we're better at other parts of the game.

Unfortunately I think our large ft attempts number is not so much because we know how to draw a foul. I think it's purely because we don't shoot 3 pointers. While our opponents are making 3s, we are getting fouled while missing layups. Then we make 1 of 2.

Thats what we used to do.... On Thursday this will all change. ;-)

Yes, not being able to shoot 3pts even a little bit was clearly GW's biggest problem offensively this year - even more than the TOs and missed FTs.  It just kills a college offense not to be able to make efficient points from the 3pt stripe and allowed opposing defenses to clamp down on GW's front court.

While it's clear GW must (and will with the new recruits) dramatically increase their outside threat, it is more interesting to me to look at the teams at the top of the list who make '3s as, aside from LaSalle, you are not seeing the conferences best. It seems like the sweet spot is to not be jacking too many or too few '3s, but just enough to land close to the middle.

3/13/2013 9:04:42 AM

GW going from 3 3pts/game to 6.5-7 3pts/game would be a major boost.  That and still getting to the line at a good clip (with hitting a better %) would make their offense much more efficient.

The real question is from where can GW generate those extra 3pts?  Nick Griffen? Maybe, but most 3pts specitalist that come to GW take some time to play at a college ball level.  That may be true for Griffin as well as the player said himself that he needs to improve this own strength and ball handling.  I doubt ML is going to be patient on any defensive lapses from the freshman.  Johnson too (if he comes) but ML will likely need that freshman to log significant minutes from the start.  We'll see if he can hit the 3 in college.

More likely it will have to come from the returning players: McDonald, Savage, Garino, Kromah and Mikic (if they return).  Garino in particular looks like he'll be a fantastic player if he can start burying 3s.  LM called him a gym rat, so we'll see what him and the others can do in the off-season to work on their outside games.

GW is 346th in the country in both '3s attempted and made. They are 333rd in the country in '3FG%. Nice.
