Season Ticket Sales

I wonder how season ticket sales are going?

Let's hope the locals can bring in a new fan base.  Savage and McDonald come from two very exclusive high schools where alumni have the big bucks so ticket prices are just pocket change.  Also they are both from Fairfax County where they have huge youth basketball programs and parents with alot of disposable income.   If I was marketing VP, I would have their faces  on the side of the Fairfax Connector buses and have them at the Vienna metro handing out fliers.  Foggy bottom/Smith Center only 8 stops away on the Orange line!   Yes we got to get the Smith Center packed.  A half packed house is a huge turn-off for recruits.

The problem of selling season tickets, IMO has never been that the price was too high, because frankly the tickets are quite reasonably priced.  The bigger problems are: 1) The team hasn't been exciting to watch because of a) poor talent/coaching/on the floor performance and b) poor schedule; 2) people just have a hard time coming into town to see games -- especially on weeknights; and 3) most casual fans aren't interested in having tickets for or going to 15 + games.

If students who live right on campus have a hard time getting to games that they can walk over and see for free - then the reality is that people will generally have a harder time racing home from work and getting back in the car and heading into DC with traffic and parking issues to go to games.

For the record, that previous post was not from me. Not that that makes the post any more or less valid (though its credibility probably goes way up now!)

They will never and should never center their marketing plan around freshmen, it doesn't matter if they're from DC. The starting shooting guard last year is also from DC and would be a much better bet.

DEA, my point was that these are local NOVA players.  Through their high schools and communities there is a strong potential fan base.  You have a good point, Lasan is from PG, so get those folks out too.   I think GW has to pursue the community.  Even before Mason became a "final 4" team, they had a very agressive marketing program to get the local youth programs out to their games.    Chantilly Youth Association is the largest in th DMV.  Many of these kids come from affluent families.  Smith Center is very easy for those folks to get to.  Yep, I think it would be crazy not to market Savage in that area.  I was joking about the Fairfax Connector but why not have Savage and some of the GW players come out to the community?  The degree of difficulty of getting to the Smith Center is not that much greater than the Patriot Center.  When you consider the traffic getting in and out of the Patriot Center.  A metro ride to the Smith center may be even easier.

I live in Fairfax County.   Patriot Center is far easier to get to than Smith Center.  No question.  Further, whereas some followers of high school ball my buy an occasional ticket to see a star play college ball locally, I don't know very many followers of high school ball that are so into it that they are going to buy a season ticket to watch the games.   We need to market generally in DC (meaning DC) and direct market to alums.  Bottom line on GW basketball...it will do OK if the team is good and so-so if the team is not good.  In other words, win games and they will come.

Anyone know what happened to Gilma?

This new person's name was on the ticket package. Don't know if it is just a new job or what happened.
