GW vs. St Josephs Prediction Thread

I think that a team as disciplined as St. Joes will tear us to shreds.

St Josephs 67

GW 49

Diggs gets a couple early fouls guarding nivins and is forced to sit.  Wilmore shoots over their backcourt for 16 but it isnt enough, as no other colonial reaches double figures.

I don't know.  St. Joe's doesn't scare me as much as some teams.  We've done very well against Nivins (we usually do a nice job doubling or tripling when he touches the ball and he is not a great passer so it's worked out).   Then again, maybe Nivins is due to go off on us before his career is done.

But also Tasheed Carr (former Hobbs recruit) doesn't scare me.  He is capable of destroying us, but he's also inconsisten and sometimes makes poor decisions, which means the crappy trappy defense might have a chance in this one.    In fact, I don't think they are a very good 3 point shooting team, which is usually something that kills us.

I'm not suggesting we'll win. Heck, we've lost 10 in a row so I'd be nervous about the home game.  But I think we have a better chance than I thought against St. Joe's.

I mean better chance than against LaSalle.

why don't I have the ability to edit?  Is it Firefo?

Someone mentioned to me that you can edit or delete posts;  I don't know how to do it, but I'm told it's quite easy.

Crappy Trappy defense. Not bad.

Well you can't call it a "trapping defense" because we don't actually trap anyone.

Actually, this is the one game this season I am sorry I am not attending. Not because of the match up ot the "thrill" of seeing St. Joe's stupud bird suit or even the remote possibility of GW winning. Rather, I am sorry to not be at this one because it is in the Palestra, hands-down the BEST venue for college basketball in the world. I have been to many of the "great" college basketball gyms, and while they are indeed great (Paulley Pavilion and its banner collection, The Pit in New Meico and its noise, Rupp and its size), none compare the the ambiance and sightlines on offer at The Palestra. Sigh, if only I were within a 3-hour drive of Philly, I would go to the game...

I'd like to go on record as saying that I am unhappy when anyone who isn't Mentzinger starts a prediction thread.  It would be just like someone other than Herve giving the pre-game analysis thread.  People, there are traditions that should be upheld.

MV, good catch.  I withdraw my prediction.

I seem to remember that Diggs was perfect, or close to it, from the floor last year against Nivens.  If form holds true, Diggs is capable of a good game against him.

With the eception of our first conference game of the year, we've been very competitive in A10 play.  We keep losing, but we're keeping it close and have been in a position to win almost every conference game.  The Hawks have not been a powerhouse team this season.  Therefore, I think this will be a close game.  SJU's seems always to be in position on the defensive end, so it will take a disciplined ball control approach to win the game.  If Taylor and King both play well and we shoot the ball ok, we can win.  Hobbs has to avoid the urge to nonstop substitute and can't waste his timeouts.  Lastly, Collucci needs to stay out of the way and not screw up.  I'm not saying we will win, but we can win this one.  And, wouldn't it be nice to come back to the Smith Center with a little momentum???

In all seriousness, I'd like to see something good happen for Hobbs.  I think he's a good guy who just needs to grow up a little bit.  If we win this one, I think it'll be a major turning point for Karl Hobbs' career here.  I'd really like to see him succeed here.

Diggs matched up well vs Nivens in the past but these two have gone in opposite directions this season.  While Diggs has seen his pts/ rebounds/ assists decline this year from 13.9/7.7/1.0 fall to 12.6/7.3/0.5 Nivins has really stepped up his game.  From 14.4/5.8/0.5 Nivens is dominating the league going 19.8/11.8/1.0. Amad's shooting  a hefty .663 from the field with 2.1 blocks and kills teams from the line (119 FTM for the year).

I say Nivins makes up from past troubles vs GW as SJU smacks the crap out of the yellow hats.

LFO- this is the second or third reference where you have been pretty sour on GC.  These quick little shots aren't nearly as angry, or strong-dislike filled as your posts regarding JK, but they are there nonetheless.

As one who has not attended any games this year, and isn't really familiar with the inner workings of the GW coaching staff to know what makes Greg a coach that would draw these negative comments from you, I'd ask you to elaborate so I can understand your position.

Danj, besides being responsible for the RI loss?

Didn't even want to post this but I'm taking the month off from gwhoops.com. It'll be good for everyone. Let's see what this team can do.

LFO- yes, aside from being responsible for the RI loss.

If you made such comments any time somebody was responsible for a loss, I would epect more snide comments about Hobbs.  I'd probably epect some snide comments about other coaches as well.
